What era of gaming did you grow up in?
Re: What era of gaming did you grow up in?
90s. The first thing I had to play games on was an Atari ST computer when I was about 5. My uncle was into all that stuff and would bring over bags of copied (cracked?) games. Then in 2nd grade xmas of 93 I got my sega genesis with Sonic 2. Since I was a kid that felt like the longest era of gaming ever to me, even though within 4 years I had an N64, it felt like ages. I must have rented every genesis game they had at the videostore.

2600 era.
My Parents made a deal with us kids to get us that instead of feeding us quarters for the arcade. I still snuck down to the local arcade every chance I could get to play the "real" versions of Donkey Kong, PacMan, and Ms. PacMan though. I got to also play Intellivision and Colecovision at my Uncle's house occasionally.
<edit> Man after reading all of these posts, I feel really, really old for some reason!

I grew up in the 90s era and I was playing Genesis a lot back in the day,Saturn a little bit and then the Playstation to 128 bit systems.I was so busy with the Genesis I completely missed SNES and that's why I'm getting the games now.I'm glad I grew up in the 90s because I think it has the biggest change in gaming,2d to 3d to realistic 3d.

I guess my gaming started with Colecovision and Atari 2600. Its the NES that I really grew up on and made gaming a full time hobby and passion of mine.
Re: What era of gaming did you grow up in?
In my terms of growing up in, I pretty much went from 16-Bit to 128-Bit generations. That is Genesis/SNES through PS2/Dreamcast/GC/X-Box.
I really started playing on an Intellivision when I was like 3 or 4. It burned up one day then for Christmas in 90 I got a Genesis. I really cut my teeth on that and loved every second of it, it remains one of my most favorite consoles to this day. Then I got a Saturn in Christmas 95 and I loved it. It was awesome being able to play great games like Virtua Fighter 2, and Nights into Dreams, and Street Fighter Alpha 2 later on. I would probably say it was my favorite console and is today especially because of importing and the memories.
About two years after, Christmas 97 I got a Playstation as the Saturn was pretty much kaput and I didn't understand how importing worked at that time because I was too young and still didn't have internet. It was on that console I played some of my most favorite games like Resident Evil 1 and 2, Final Fantasy VII and Tactics, MGS etc etc. I got me a Dreamcast in the Summer of 99 and also really enjoyed it, I was caught up in it's hype so it felt great to finally be able to own one. I still played my Playstation as well I pretty much rotated what I would play for a lengthy period of time.
When the Dreamcast got retired I went until 2002 until I got a new console, I picked up a Gamecube because I knew big Resident Evil titles were going to be on it and it looked promising, it was my first Nintendo console other than a GameBoy which is different and I got burned because for a whole year nothing came out that interested me. I hated the concept of Super Mario Sunshine, I didn't like 3D Metroid (Still don't to an extent), and I didn't care about Zelda one bit at this time. I was burned, and I migrated to the PS2 in 2003 and was happy ever since.

Well my first console was a nes, but I did the majority of gaming on my families trusty 486 for a very long time. I didn't get back to consoles till the psONE, which I got pretty late in it's life.
Re: What era of gaming did you grow up in?
my first game was super mario world on SNES it belonged to my cousin. Few years later I finally got in on the game and received a N64 for xmas.
Re: What era of gaming did you grow up in?
I started in the NES era. We had a solid collection of games. My mom worked in retail and had a cheap hookup, otherwise we could have never afforded the 30+ NES games we owned by 1993.
But I really became a devoted gamer during the SNES era. Zelda and Mario were both masterpieces, as well as a helluva lot of other games on the console too.

Re: What era of gaming did you grow up in?
My first system was our old NES that lived in the basement until we got an N64 in 2000.
So you could say that I lived through the 16/32 bit eras but really came into my own in the 128 bit/Mid 2000's eras.
And RyaNthaSlayA are you really 15? I just turned 17 like two weeks ago and thought I was the youngest guy in this place.
Anyway to answer the question that I know people are going to start asking I came to be a retro gamer out of the sheer obsession to find a SEGA Genesis back when I was eleven after playing Sonic 1&3 at a friend's house. After that I learned about the SEGA CD, 32X ( still trying to find one in good shape with metal clips, spacer, & cables ), Dreamcast, Saturn, GameGear, SNES ( I had never seen, played, or even touced one in person until 2005 ), and all other sorts of game systems add ons and accessories that now litter my bedroom & TV shelf & bookshelf.

Re: What era of gaming did you grow up in?
I got to play a lot of systems , I believe I played all systems that were released after 1980(those that had any kind of significance)
The only thing I didn't play was philips cd-i
I do not think I even saw one
and commodore , I might played it but I just can't recall but i played msx.
I didn't get to play turbo-grafx either..
but if one system that took most of my time it would be the NES, but japanese, famicom I guess. We used to call it family game. I also got to play psx for what seems a long time but now that I can swear that I stopped by '99 and I am 100% didn't get it before '96 , that leaves a maximum of 2 years that I played it.
