There are a lot of great SFC English translations available these days, especially in the realm of RPG. Here are some fairly recent translations that I think are worth checking out:

BoneSnapDeez wrote:Legend of Heroes II is the only one in the series to lack a translation of any kind. Worth checking out, though you may prefer the version on PC Engine CD with cutscenes and DAT SOUNDTRACK.

Xak only has a fan translation of menus. Great ass game.

Neither Albert Odyssey game on SuFami has been translated. Perhaps you're familiar with the third game on the Saturn.

No translations for Ys V Expert or Brandish 2 Expert, though the vanilla versions have been translated.

Both Farland Story installments are legendary. Only the PC-98 and PC games have translations.

Lady Stalker: Kako Kara no Chousen - Fun action-RPG. Sequel to Landstalker on Genny.

Popful Mail - So kawaii.

Motherfucking Lord Monarch. Though there is a free downloadable English version for PC. Part VII of the Dragon Slayer series.

Tengai Makyou Zero - Far East of Eden game. Kinda shocked these lack translations.

Trinea - Hot demon babe. Cool action-RPG.

Nuthin' for Arcus Spirits - though you can also get dat on Genny.

Dragon Knight 4 - the sequel to Knights of Xentar. BOOOOOBS.

The Blue Crystal Rod may be worth checking out if you are insane enough to enjoy The Tower of Druaga games.

Jyutei Senki - Robots and trees. Awesome.

Dual Orb is not translated but the sequel is.

Best I can do off the top of my head.
Thank you so much, Bones Sensei! I will put these in a file for later reference/purchase :I

I'm not sure I'm good enough to actually play through to the end of some of the "Expert" labeled-type games, but I'm always interested in 16-bit era RPG's (of any kind) that I haven't heard of :D . Though I will probably stray away from the SRPG's (even the ones with cool themes ;A;) because I tend to be awful at them even when they're in English XP

My thoughts on a few I could find quick footage of:

Xak: Looks like some sort of strange Ys and Zelda mash-up that I'm sad we never got here in the US ;A;

Farland Saga 2: Looks very pretty. Fire-Emblem-y style SRPG's are the only ones I stand a chance in because anything else I tend to not notice which units are the best ones and get too scared on what to invest in.

Trinea: Looks like a right-fun romp, though I just kinda wished the camera followed the player a little more. It's kinda got Secret of Mana-syndrome goin' on where you gotta be way too close to the edge of the screen to make it pan :/

Jyutei Senki: Looks so cool but I'm so bad at SRPG's with lots of units ;_;

Arcus Spirits: So cool! If you've every played the gameboy game Mercenary Force, this is like an isometric version of that which is also map based and less like a scrolling shooter.

Far East of Eden: The overworld and map are so pretty! I love the theme: It reminds me of Super Ninja Boy if the sprite-work were pumped up to 11.

Dragon Knight 4: Probably a few too many boobs for me in this game for me to feel terribly comfortable playing it, at least from what I saw Xp

Did that Lodoss War tactical RPG for the Super Famicom ever get a full translation? I remember the last time I looked it up that only partial translations were available, but that was...a decade ago.

Tanooki wrote:When was the last time it got updated? I don't recall hearing about that happening for awhile. To be honest as expensive as it is I'd sell something off if need be if any guys/girls could as it's open add the SA1 and the FX chip to the device. I don't recall, was the SDD1 decompression routine ever added? I know if it had SA1 and FX support I'd own one already.
I think the last update (before now) was back in August. ikari had another kid in the meantime, I think, so it's slowed him down a bit. The new firmware seems really solid right now. I've been using the preview release for a while, and as long as the in-game hooks are off, everything works great. It even fixed issues I was having with Treasure of the Rudras on 1.6.

No SDD1 decompression yet. Thankfully Star Ocean is playable with a patched ROM, and I've already got a legit cart of SFA2. I'd still love to see it implemented, though.

Didn't even have to click the link to know what this one was gonna be. I agree that Gun Hazard is a spectacular game. If you have a passing interest in either SNES-era Squaresoft or mecha, you'll love the game.

I really need to get back to Energy Breaker at some point. Even though it's more SRPG-styled, it's got a similar feel to Lufia II. Same dev, of course.

Hmm thought so on the SDD1, good news on the rest though.

Here's a job, let's see if someone can find it. :) Years ago zsknight(zsneswin/dos) worked with some people and got SFAlpha2 decompressed and made a file for zsnes to pull it and run the decompressed files. They're out there, somewhere, but all the known locations from the last decade are all dead links/shut down. Find that, and you SD2SNES (and everdrive) users could play that game too, not just Star Ocean. Surprised me that one is so easy to find and the other went missing as Street Fighter is far more popular/known than Star Ocean.

^ It's not so surprising when you think of it this way: SFA2 is available on other consoles, Star Ocean is not.

The Star Ocean decompressed ROM wasn't so easy to find a couple years ago. AFAIK, there was only one download link for the decompressed ROM that you could find in a Google search. It was posted by Neviksti, the author of the hack, on some forum. When the SNES PowerPak came out, which was the first SNES flash cart able to load the 96Mbit ROM (not counting backup units like the GF7, which is what this decompressed ROM was originally intended for), I got permission from Neviksti to create patches and upload it on RHDN. To my knowledge, that's the only reason why it's so easy to find now.

The Super Everdrive cannot load the decompressed Star Ocean ROM. The Super Everdrive has a max ROM size of 56Mb (7MB), the decompressed Star Ocean ROM is 96Mb (12MB). The only two SNES flash carts that can load a 96Mbit ROM, that I know of, are the SNES PowerPak and Sd2snes.

Anyway, Neviksti was very helpful when I PM'ed him. If you really want the decompressed SFA2, why not try messaging/emailing zsknight or some of the other people that worked on it and ask if it can be re-uploaded?

Wow. Just wow. I was digging everywhere for that. Did you find it online, or did you happen to still have a copy? Either way, kudos.

Found it on some obscure Brazilian ROM site that was in Portuguese.

Deep in my old ROM archives I probably still have the release copy I downloaded 12 years ago. But that would have taken even longer to find.

Damn dude got me beat. I tried looking for it at the start of the year and in the past before. I'd start from any known or obscurely known ROM news/link site I knew of during that time period dead or alive and used web archive, google cache, and other archiving stuff and came up with crap. Lots of backed up sites but all that lacked that particular download. I'll admit I stayed off of stuff that was foreign other than spanish and japanese as I can muddle through it a bit. I should have figured the brazilians since they had this good following in the 90s and 00s.

I'm saving that again. I ever get myself a SD2SNES or everdrive(if it can take it) it would be nice to have that game workable without having the SDD1 algorithm cracked as it is.

The annoying bit was around fall/early winter last year I actually had that file among others and erased them as they were wasting space on my pair of limits (32GB and 8GB) stick drives before I could get a 1TB external hard drive which made it all the more grating.
