When I first discovered that the GBA would resize the GB picture, I played that way for one day, then I got sick of the stretched picture and went right back to playing in standard ratio.

Well, a frontlight is better than nothing. I'd love a backlit GBA, and a backlit original Game Boy would be even cooler.marlowe221 wrote: I have seen some really nice biverted, backlight modded original Gameboys online. It would be really cool to have one.
I know there are people who frontlight mod the GBC but... I don't know.. it doesn't look that good in pictures/videos on the internet to me. On the other hand, if it is comparable to the frontlit GBA SP, which is what I have, then I guess it would be OK.
Those biverted GBs are really cool. I didn't even know that's what they were doing! If I find an old original model, I may give it a shot. I don't want to nuke my old one, I've got a bit of a soft spot for it.
Re: Where's the defining Gameboy/GBC article
I'm good with any style screen Gameboy from 1989 to present except the shitty one the stock original GBA had, it's just damn near unusable even under certain direct lighting lamps. It's so freaking dark games with smaller moving objects, say like bullets in a game like Rtype3/Gradius Galaxies you're just screwed.
The frontlight while not as bright and making the imagery seem a bit softer or perhaps slightly washed out was a HUGE step and it really does look great. The problem is people got spoiled fast by the LED/LCD tech improving and Nintendo having the DSi and Micro a thing put that panel in the 'brighter' SP and many people just couldn't go back as it had high vivid bright graphics and super sharpness a front light softens away.
I can deal with either. Currently, and I would consider it normally being trapped, I'm using a frontlit SP because it's the NES style one I found a couple months back and I love using it. I'd prefer the brighter, but I'm too much of a coward to gut a good brighter panel and shove it in the NES SP as they're so rare (250K were made, how many are left and in excellent shape no less?) I had a modded GBA I did which was original I put a 101 panel in, it was pure awesome, best of anything but it broke. I poorly tooled the inside of the shell, pressure was laid on the screen, and the first 3ft drop onto carpet of all things cracked the damn thing.
If I ever find another cheap 101 panel again I'll redo it and better. I'll go buy a dremel or some auto nail file and really work that plastic right.
Look if we don't have a defining Gameboy and Gameboy Color article here, I wouldn't mind chipping in or attempting to do it myself. It's been years since I did a web piece though, probably have to read up on the 'best' for its 8bit companion the NES to get a format to feel out using.

Just put one together in this thread. The rest of us can double-check for typos, grammar, and factual errors before it hits the home page.
