I buy my stuff complete in box AND make custom cases for them.

Gotta protect them original cases, especially if it's cardboard or those Sega CD/Saturn cases that crack when a gentle breeze hits them.

Is it sad that I'm already considering what games to put on my Summer Games Challenge list?

I've finally finished making the DS case covers for my Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, and Game Gear games. As soon as I crawl myself out of debt (it's actually not (much) because of buying video games this time but unforeseen car troubles), I'm going to order 40 or 50 blank DS cases and finally get those on a shelf. I'll probably need to buy a new bookshelf, too...

Most DS cases made these days won't actually fit GBA without modification, and won't fit the others at all without heavy modification.

Alternatively, ShadowFox over at The Cover Project (and also has his own site, customgamecases.com) made a case that has the same dimensions as the DS cases, but will hold GB/GBC/GBA games with no modification. He's planning to eventually make GG cases too (has done the GB* cases and NES as well as Genesis repros, with SNES/N64 in the prototype stage right now)

Disclaimer: I am not employed by him, just a huge cheerleader cuz I'm waiting for him to get down his line until he reaches the "Sega Longbox" point and I will be soooooo happy.

I would (and may later) order those cases, but my plan right now is just buy a bunch of bulk DS cases (even though they don't hold GBA games anymore) and cut out the little DS card holder thing and have the cartridges in there loose. It's not like I do an interpretive dance every time I get a game off my shelf; not having it held snugly isn't a gigantic concern for me.

It's really not that hard a mod. All you need is a razor blade and a little patience. For GBA you just slice a small tab of plastic off above where the GBA holder is, and for GB/GBC games you just have to remove about half of the DS card slot and a small piece of plastic on the bottom of hte GBA holder which is also really easy as long as you are careful. Be sure to use a piece of cardboard or something between the case and plastic sleeve to keep from piercing through the sleeve on accident while cutting the DS slot the plastic is pretty thin there and it's safer to just cut through it then notch it and risk cracking the case popping it out. I also cover the little hole it leaves behind with some black tape to make it look a little better. Once you get good you can do either mod in about 30-40 seconds.

Here are the ones that I bought last time they are kind of brittle but there aren't many other option around unless you want to pay significantly more for custom cases. Sadly the price has gone up last time I ordered it was $33 shipped for 50 now it's up to $39. Also heard a rumor going around that most of the manufacturers making these are moving over to making 3DS cases which is probably why the prices have been steadily rising recently .

It's beyond reason that they have molds for these cases that include the GBA slot yet have an extra bit of annoying plastic preventing their use. At least it's an easy enough process to remove it though.

That's probably what I'll go with. That price isn't bad at all, and I've got the electric dremel I used to cut out some tabs in my universal game cases for my NES and Atari 5200 games, so the few cuts I need would take no time.

An easy fix is to "comic book" bag them. So easy to make custom sized clear plastic sleeves cut with scissors and a clear glossy tape. Leave a fold flap on top for easy quick removal. I do this for any disc game case and movie that has an outer cardboard sleeve.

If only buying GBA games CIB, many titles will be missed or be very expensive. Then there is the issue of quick access of portable games having to break open the cardboard box and inner sleeve. Can be a hassle as games get changed transferring back and forth to a smaller pouch.

Since the majority of my gameboy games are cart only, I keep them in two huge binders in alphabetical order. Makes for a more compact storage, Coin sleeve pages work perfect! Easy to pull games out for transfer to an "0n the go" pouch.

Trust me a loose razor blade is the way to go the plastic is really soft so it cuts really easy and it's hard to use the dremel without damaging other parts and/or melting the plastic.
