I'm surprised EVO gets so much. I paid $50 for it in Dec 2012 and had I done anything over that I'd feel like I overpaid. Sure it's unique, but it's not terribly fun either that I'd recommend it to people. It's good enough sure, far better than a good deal of crap any system gets, but it's not like excellent by any means. The boss fights are cheap as hell and annoying twice over, and the only good strategy sadly in that game is to collect up a lot of evo points, then spam the crap out of evolving/de-evolving your horn because each conversion gives your full HP back making those battles tolerable (though also boring.)

I really like EVO, but I think I paid only $28 (or less) for it years ago.
Anything ARPG-like is right up my alley. Also tend to like games that let you play as a monster.

Played it again on a PSP emulator a few years ago; would have made a cool gba or DS rerelease, I think. Or better yet, an improved sequel on a handheld.
HG101 has a good article on the series.

That's impressive that your three day old wants to play EVO.

I think EVO is pretty great, it does take some grind to progress but its really unique and looks pretty. I guess not paying and just emulating gives me a lower expectation.

I think EVO is terrible. 95% of the game consists in spamming the A button near enemies just so you can level up and spam the A button near a different kind of enemy. And it's not even fun to spam the A button because the controls are unresponsive, the hitboxes are off and the whole workings of the game are generally terrible.

It's by all means a 5th rate platformer and grinding and "level-ups" do nothing to improve it, rather the opposite.

But at least it doesn't have bump combat.

I can't imagine an old Almanic / Enix game ever getting a VC release, unfortunately. Maybe the same day The 7th Saga or Paladin's Quest gets one.

Agreed that E.V.O. has some janky ass combat. Nothing I find game-breaking though. Worth noting that the original 46 Okunen Monogatari is turn-based.
