To my credit, I almost always at least play the game when I've purchased it... but it will often be quickly forgotten. The most prevalent example of this is all the cheapy PS2 games I picked up while GameStop was clearing them out. How many of those have I actually put much time in, much less beaten? I'm pretty sure it's none. But I have 'em, right?

That's me with Wii games from Gamestop. I frequently buy a handful, put them on my shelf, and promptly forget about them.Sarge wrote:To my credit, I almost always at least play the game when I've purchased it... but it will often be quickly forgotten. YUP! My collecting to playing ratio is very far out of balance.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
This almost fits in with the discussion about game length. As games have gotten longer, the habits we might have had when younger no longer actually work very well now. There's actually an outside shot that I'd be able to finish the entirety of the American NES library, and possibly in a reasonable amount of time if I were efficient about it. Can you say the same thing about, say, the 360 library? Or even a subset of the PS1 library? It'd be brutal!
I'm never one to ask for less content, but just like films, sometimes, things are better left on the cutting room floor. Give me good content, and I'll finish your games.
Unless, you know, you buy everything you have interest in when it's on sale, and you have lots of good games competing for your time. It never stops!
As Exhuminator says, it's not a backlog, it's a library.

Preach it my casual brother!Sarge wrote:As Exhuminator says, it's not a backlog, it's a library.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I would ask what it would take to not be "casual", but I already know the answer, and I'm sure it has something to do with... meadows? Oh, fields, right. Sounds like casual junk to me.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Oh man...insert any library they're basically "clearancing" out at almost any store. I'm guilty of this so much. I plan on beating all of it eventually but I do realize that there is a good chunk of titles taht can't be truly beaten last I checked(looking at you namco museum and other titles similar to it...). But darned if i'm not trying XDElkinFencer10 wrote:That's me with Wii games from Gamestop. I frequently buy a handful, put them on my shelf, and promptly forget about them.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Sometimes I think about collecting logically and it seems stupid and pointless when I look at it from that perspective. But then I stop thinking about it logically and just recognize my collection brings me joy.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I'm actually selling a lot of my "library" right now, even stuff I had from when I was a kid. As much as I like all this stuff, it's just stuff. Plus I need to buy a trailer. And I'll be moving at the end of May so less things to move is better.
