Spent some time with Trails of Nayuta last night (Nayuta no Kiseki) on PSP. I had been leery of trying this translation because I heard it was machine translated garbage. Well, I don't know why someone would think that. I've been playing version 4.14 of the translation, and so far the actual wording and phrasing is natural and doesn't seem machine translated whatsoever. Yeah once in a while there's grammatical errors, but with a script of this size that's to be expected. Everything is translated except for area name logos that appear when you enter a new area, but you can go into your quest status menu and it tells you the English name of where you are at any given time, so no big deal.

Thus far the visual production values, design, controls, and music are all really great. This is a late gen Falcom JRPG for PSP and really utilizes the system's functionality in well designed ways. I'm pretty sure this one's going to be a winner just from the hour I spent with it last night. Screenshots speak more than words often so I'll dump some for you guys. Some of these images have Japanese writing in them, but the translation puts all that in English, so no fear:

The gameplay reminds me very much of Ys 7 so far. Although you can jump really high, so I'm sure there's going to be more platforming than what Ys 7 had. I'm looking forward to sinking deeper into this one over the next gaming sessions.

Did you import a physical copy, chief?

Depends on how the game goes, if it truly rocks ass that's a possibility.

Well, considering you can't jump in Ys Seven, I'd hope so. ;)

Nice to see that patch seems to have progressed a bit, I might need to give it a shot again. Reading the GBATemp thread, it's apparently not machine-translated, which would explain why it's not garbage. Supposedly a new patch was going to be out in the February time frame, but I'm assuming that's not the current version.

Yeah I couldn't remember if in Ys Seven if you could jump or not. Some of the Ys games let you do so. So yeah, Nayuta has platforming to go with the hack'n'slash action.

The English patch I'm playing with is 99% complete English, other than the area name logos. You can play through the whole game in English with it. It's felt legit so far.

Sweet. I might hold off just a wee bit longer, see if that revised patch drops soon. I did try it several months ago (I think you sent me the link, actually!), and I liked what I saw.

On a roll in PSOBB. Did a bunch of grinding in the caves, though I still haven't defeated the dragon in forest. Hell I don't know if I even have to beat the dragon as BB allows you to visit all the dungeons from the get-go.

I designed my character to resemble my daughter as closely as possible. It's a questionable match.

This is a good game.

If the little buggers wouldn't die so easily I'd use their rightfully coded name of majesty. If they want an upgrade they're going to have to stop being so damn brittle.

That actually looks like it'd be a lot of fun...stinks though that they never made a english version officially of it XD

Finally completed the final upgrade for Tizona last night (I guess BLUs are El Cid in FFXI). It was...not cheap.
