TIL (Okay, YIL) that Neo Geo's Aggressors of Dark Kombat (or Gangan if you prefer the way-less-awesome Japanese name) had a friendzone fatality in it. Kisarah's Jealousy Bomber.

The master chief collection is actually really nice on the XB1 and was well worth the $20 I spent on it. There are two major things that bug me about it first off is they developed an HD port of ODST alongside it and even included it in the menu, but it's an addition $15-20 although they gave it away for free as an apology for the second issue which is the Multiplayer. The matchmaking was completely broken at launch and the setup is crap even when running properly. Basically you choose the game type you want to play sit in a lobby for 5-10 minutes then you get to vote between 3 maps/game modes before the game launches the catch being that out of the 50+ maps available you will usually end up playing the same 5-6 over and over again due to the "random" selection not being so random. Then post match your lobby is completely disbanded and you are forced to start all over again from the root multiplayer menu :P. Basically they gimped the multiplayer so that people would move on to Halo 5.

Didn't much care for Halo 5 either it's pretty but the story is a trainwreck without reading the novels, Locke is the worst lead character out of the series and 2/3rds of the game are devoted to him, and the multiplayer is plagued by that annoying card system which solely exists so they could put micro transactions in the game.

The Master Chief Collection is definitely worth the price IMO (for the game, anyway; it's definitely not worth buying a whole Xbox One).

Here's a question:

So the Retron 5 costs about $140. It has an HD upscaler built in that, as far as I can tell, is pretty nice. I've been very happy with the picture quality on mine.

With that in mind, when I'm shopping for a decent upscaler just for my actual consoles, why are my only options a $200+ Framemeister or $30 upscalers on Amazon that have iffy reviews? I don't understand why there's no in-between on these when obviously Hyperkin is able to fit one within their price. Even considering they're buying components in bulk, how is there not a good upscaler that's $60-100?

Because Retron 5 is an emulator. The resolution is done in the software and isnt being hardware upscaled.

If you want a nice hardware upscaler, you gotta shell out for the framemeister.

It is, however, a very nice software upscaler.

Aside from that, I'd say there's there's a fairly small, niche market for high end consumer scalers. For most purposes/users, the scalers integrated into TVs, receivers, DVD/Blu-ray players, and so on work fine.

It helps that TV manufacturers have become a little more cognizant of lag times, and many sets are good, or at least acceptable. But yeah, if you want higher quality, you're gonna have to shell out money.

I've got an older Sony Bravia set that works great for older gaming. It doesn't handle drop shadows like it should (alternating black lines), but other than that it's pretty great. But most of my retro gaming as of late has been on the 32" WEGA I have.
