I don't know exactly what caused the lack of sales, but I know there was a distinct lack. Quite a few years back, I remember walking into a Big Lots and seeing brand new copies of Other M selling for $10 each. And there was literally a box full of them. I can't recall seeing any other first party Nintendo releases selling that low at that store before or since.

We've talked about this before, but I think Other M is a 7/10. Not a terrible game by any means, but not as stellar as a lot of its series' highlights have been. I still think the idea of a polygonal third person Metroid is a good idea, and worth continuing to work with.
I can think of some that bombed -- Battalion Wars Wii, Elite Beat Agents, True Swing Golf, all these I remember seeing stacks of being slowly sold in the $10 range, EBA even hit $5 in stacks to attempt getting rid of them as they just didn't take off at all.

As far as Metroid goes I think my attraction to that game was the fact they more so went back to the classic Metroid format of style, sure it was 3D but it was handled in a more 2D / 2.5D style format so it was more about the exploration of the area, and not a first person shooter. Goemon did this the 2nd time out on N64 and people really dug it.

And that's kinda sad with EBA just because from what I recall it was supposed to be part of those games that were super inventive to some extent with the control system of the DS...I wish more games still did it...heck I wish more did it with vita too with it's dual touchscreen.... >_>

Elite Beat Agents and Other M did NOT earn their place in the bargain bin's bargain bin. I'm a bigger fan of Other M than most, but I think everyone who's played EBA can agree that it's a fantastic and quirky little game.

I never finished EBA, almost did, but couldn't do the last half of the final score (I think, maybe I did once and forgot.) The problem was that you had no identifier on the other screen so when using the stylus and how it worked in tapping or drawing out a path your hand would often block part of the screen and I'd end up losing because of that, not for a lack of speed or timing. I got fed up with it and eventually sold the game due to that, and it wouldn't surprise me if that along with the screw ball quirky factor doomed it and blocked the sequel coming out.

Later games totally and completely aped the design such as the duo of 3DS Final Fantasy music titles, but they did it where you just tapped or moved the stylus on the lower panel while seeing that effort on the top screen so you wouldn't have those issues. I guess they learned from the mistake as did a few others.

I think the Internet conniption led to the lack of sales. I do wonder how many folks that screamed bloody murder actually bought the game?

Just as word of mouth can make a game, it can just as quickly kill it. Its reputation did it no favors, and I too saw it hit bargain bins. I remember actually seeing pre-owned copies in GameStop for $5. Five. Dollars.

And yes, Elite Beat Agents is good stuff. Man, that last song was brutal for me, though.

Yes, I saw Other M get real cheap at Gameplop too. Then you know what I did?

I bought that Other Mucker!

And I loved it. Aside from some painful cut scenes, Other M is a great game. Great art direction, great control scheme, great gameplay.

Has anyone played LBX: Little Battlers eXperience? I get a strong Car Battler Joe meets Custom Robo vibe from the videos.

Let's not forget about SEGA 3D Classics Collection coming out soon, as well. I know that's one I'm looking forward to.
