Hey Bone, do the Krondor games play at all like a WRPG/JRPG hybrid?

Betrayal is a first person WRPG with grid based tactical combat with the worst camera angle ever.

There are some elements that remind me of JRPGs, such as a captivating storyline and really bombastic and memorable music.

The first game in the series is phenomenal. One of the best WRPGs.

Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss

Day 3 in the abyss.

I had only a limited amount of time to play this last night before hopping into Grim Dawn with a few friends, so I decided to take some time and retrace my steps to access that shrine on the first floor. After wandering around, throwing myself at the ledge, climbing back up, and wondering what I was doing wrong, I noticed another ledge off in the distance that I had missed... I lined myself up and made the leap to discover a switch there! Pressing it, I swiftly made myself back to the ledge where I believed the shrine to be, and lo and behold, the door now stood open! I lined myself up, threw myself forward...and bounced off the wall. A couple of times actually. That jump is a pain in the butt to make. But thanks to the power of saving and reloading, I eventually attained success and wandered into the now-open doorway to find my missing shrine.

The room was large, bigger than nearly any room I had encountered so far, and I slowly hugged the walls of it to map it out, discovering that my new-found prize was in the shape of an ankh. Classy. The shrine I had been seeking dominated the center of the room, and three of the four sides contained words of power. I stepped over to the shrine and said the words, and boom, stat boosts! Apparently randomized stat boosts! Oh dear... Thankfully, the stat boosts I received were all in skills I wanted to increase, but now I'm wary of prayer. And I wonder how many times I can pray for stat boosts too. Once per level? Unknown. But I also realized how to view my stat screen at least.

Anyway, I have one other minor pit stop I intend to make, to grab a shield that I left behind. Then it's down to level 2 to continue on with my explorations there.

Grim Dawn

I reached level 29 while playing with friends last night. It turns out I had missed a few things, but I successfully swung back and picked up the couple of shrines I had sped past as well as a couple of minor quests. There is still one that I know I missed due to crashing right before it was turned in last week. There are some issues in multiplayer, and game stability isn't perfect, but GD is still highly playable. I'm liking it, even if I'm the least experienced of the group I'm playing with.

Yeah Betrayal is one of those games that a lot of people deeply love, but I could not get into. I mean, it is a very unique RPG with above average writing, I give it that. But playing the actual game was simply not fun for me. I found the battle system to be a chore, and the parts where you have to navigate the magical traps on the grid were just excruciating. Of course, maybe I just didn't know what I was doing, but the game could have been more intuitive. If you're a fan of Krondor lore I suppose that helps a lot.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I beat King's Field IV this morning. It is an amazing game, and I am so glad I played through it. I will write more about it in the games beaten thread on Monday.
