RPG Progress Report
Re: RPG Progress Report
I admit, there is a lot about this game that is extremely cryptic and which I still don't understand. I still don't know how to look at my stats, for instance. I believe I'm level 6 at this point, though I'm not sure if I get experience for exploration or just fighting. But I like it, so I intend to keep playing it.

I think what you are looking for is the Statistics panel. Here's how to access it:
PLAY KING'S FIELD.
Re: RPG Progress Report
Ah! Ok, good to know. I knew that the chain would take me from the rune set back to my inventory but didn't know it would also cycle through my stats.

Re: RPG Progress Report
I used a walkthrough.
There was a period several years ago where I was Ultima-crazy and played all the games. Even Escape from Mt. Drash (I wouldn't recommend that one).

Re: RPG Progress Report
Since I've only beaten Akalabeth and Ultima I, I figure it was time I start trying to get through more of this classic series, especially since I have access to so many different Ultimas via GOG. I'm planning to give Ultima II a go over the summer, and if my eyeballs don't vomit too terribly, perhaps try for Ultima III later this fall to knock out the original trilogy. I don't mind playing the Ultima Underworlds at a different time since they're so different, but stuff like Martian Dreams...well, I want to do it where it fits in the timeline.
As an RPG fan...there were some WRPGs I got into growing up, but so much of my focus was on JRPGs that I feel like I'm playing catch up with many of the classics. I owe it to myself as a fan of the genre to play through the likes of the Ultima series while continuing to explore what other RPGs are out there that I missed or never beat.
Fastbilly told me I was crazy for doing this too. That's always a good sign.

Re: RPG Progress Report
IMO the only essential Ultima games are VII (and its expansion), and UU2.
WRPGs in general can be really hit and miss like everything else. I've started and stopped many more WRPGs than I've finished. I tend to get halfway through them and run out of steam. My all time favorite though is Fallout 1 (yes I beat it), and I would also strongly recommend Icewind Dale, because I think it would appeal to you Ack. I never finished Icewind Dale, but I plan to go back and do so. I think you said you already beat the Baldur's Gate games, but if not, yes, they are totally essential.

Haha, yeah, I've played through Baldur's Gate more than once. It is a personal favorite. I've got Icewind Dale and its sequel(like I said a while back, 59 RPGs as of yet unbeaten on my GOG account, with another 20+ on my wishlist...), but I tried running it in multiplayer with a few buddies who wanted to try it out, and the experience was less than stellar. We might look into the Enhanced Edition that came out recently to see if it makes multiplayer a bit easier to deal with. I know it's combat focused in Nordic-esque territories, and I do so love crushing my enemies and spilling dark red blood on pure white snow...
Anyway, essential or not, I want the experience of beating these. I want to beat them, break them, and find out what treasures they hold. I want people to know that I did it, and I want them to see my mighty conquests and despair. I suppose it's silly, but...meh. How else am I to be a godking of gaming?

If they're anything like PC GRAW, that shouldn't be too hard then.Exhuminator wrote:Beat all the King's Fields and I'll share the throne with you.Ack wrote:How else am I to be a godking of gaming?
