I'm playing a real copy of it, on a real PS2, in 4:3, at 640x480 native resolution, and the screenshots above represent how the game looks on my own TV. I imagine this game beign upres'd via an emulator would look truly amazing.
Yellow: finally got around to playing some more. Beat surge, and now on digglet tunnel. Just doing that much is enough for now...I can't do anymore right now. Was hoping to make it to lavender but ugh....

Aside from my bedtime FF Tactics sessions, I started up The Elder Scrolls Online again. I played up to level 25 last year but soon got distracted otherwise... though I've been logging in on a daily basis solely to purchase the daily upgrade for my horse. The best thing about no sub fee is that you never feel pressured to complete stuff within the month or whatever... Most of the bad stuff you hear about the game is from the early version - like FFXIV, before A Realm Reborn.
It really is a decent MMO and a good TES game. If you're into TES lore and world and gameplay, I suspect you would enjoy it - even if you're not interested in socializing. The only social things I've done are dungeons every few levels, and they're quite fun. Mostly though it's just like playing a TES game - the unique way the servers are set up means there's always a few other people running about but never overcrowded (except in hubs and cities).
I've played FFVIII for close to 7 hours now, just past the first flashback with Laguna. Getting a strong Assassin's Creed 3 vibe character wise; like Haytham, Laguna instantly feels like a more likeable and interesting main character than the one we're given. Squall is an arse. Also very noticeable is how slowly the game opens, especially after playing FFVII. It's different, not better or worse.
I like the school/military setting actually and it seems better realised already than Final Fantasy-Type-0. I think playing Type-0 might have given me a spoiler for a plot point down the line but, as Squall would say...whatever.
I'm kind of struggling with the whole equipping magic as armour thing and having to upgrade weapons instead of just buying new ones. I have a desperate need for screws. Not saying I don't like either of these two aspects but again, it's jarring after FFVII and PDS. The draw system isn't so bad though. It's odd but functions well enough. I get the feeling the enemies have been adjusted to get fewer turns in battle though to facilitate drawing. They kind of just stand around while you pinch some spells out of their pockets for a minute or two before remembering they're in a fight to the death.
It should go without saying really but the game is marked improvement in graphics over VII both in and out of battle. Great soundtrack as well so far. Gonna try and finish the first disc tomorrow, ain't got nothing else better to do.
