Huh, 'bout time.
I didn't put much time into the first 7th Dragon, but wasn't that the one that was basically Etrian Odyssey battles smashed up with a traditional JRPG structure?

Yeah, that's a fair descriptor. I only got a little way in because I was doing a four princess party and wasn't ready to tolerate the amount of grinding that would require.

Yeah after Kazuya Niinou designed Etrian Odyssey for Atlus, he left and joined Image Epoch and created 7th Dragon. However he wasn't involved in the 7th Dragon sequels. Instead Rieko Kodama took over the series. She was one of the key people behind the original Phantasy Star series, so I'd say 7th Dragon's been in good hands.Sarge wrote:Huh, 'bout time.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
Quick thoughts on the three games I'm playing right now:
SMT Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker Never played any of these games. It's definitely kinda tough. Since finishing the first few battles, from then on each one has been a lot of trial and error for me. When there's a Free Battle option available I'm always wondering if it's almost a requirement to do that first. Gameplay-wise I really enjoy it though. The demons are a great wrinkle. Just have to "get gud" maybe.
Project X Zone 2 Only played this for maybe 3 hours at most but it's more or less the same feeling from the first one. It's flashy and you'll enjoy seeing your favorite characters. Story is crap again FWIW. There are some changes though. The 3D animations for the special moves are more impressive, and a few gameplay tweaks/additions were for the best. You can augment your characters a little more than last time and they essentially require you to perform (i.e. sit through) less moves every time you fight, so you don't really lose anything but the game goes faster. All in all, I'll be playing this one off and on for a year or so until I beat it. This series fits an odd niche. The battles can be long but if you have an hour to kill and want to make sure you progress with a game in that hour, it's a good game to have.
Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright Pretty early on in this one as well. My first FE was Awakening, so I played it on Normal and once I used Master Seals on my characters to upgrade them the game was too much of a cakewalk, so I'm playing this one on the Hard. It's definitely a challenge for me. I find I'm having to pay much more attention to everyone's abilities to maximize what I'm trying to do. My only beef so far is that I'm finding it hard to decide on pair ups because the story is still unfolding and I'm still meeting characters who I believe will be fairly integral, so I feel like I can't commit to anything and I'd like to get on that right away. This game feels a LOT like Awakening so far but the gameplay tweaks are evident too. I just wish the menus, sound effects, and art style were changed a little to denote a new entry to the franchise, but I guess I understand the other side. They probably sided with familiarity and the games feeling like they're all part of the same series. Overall, no complaints. I loved the last game and this is more or less what I wanted out of another one.

If you're playing Fates, check out Fort Vectrex. I posted the exact castle address in the Together RPG thread about Fire Emblem (about halfway down page 8 )

Ha yeah I mentioned in another thread it just kind of happened that way but that I'm also going on a cruise in May that will involve excessively long plane trips both ways so I plan on getting a lot done gaming-wise. Also getting the Mega Man collection so it'd be nice to come home after beating a handful of those.TSTR wrote:holy 3ds srpg batman

I'm digging project x zone 2. It's weirdly satisfying. I never really got into Final Fantasy Tactics on PSX, but loved it on GBA and I feel like this is satisfying that SRPG void I have in my life. I've never jumped on that Fire Emblem boat, and I feel like it's set sail for me.

I jumped on it with Awakening and I was glad I did. Project X Zone is a fun series but you basically just breeze through it and enjoy the show. Awakening was challenging at first because it was new to me but if you want a some more meat on the bone it's a great strategy RPG.Blu wrote:I'm digging project x zone 2. It's weirdly satisfying.
