As a result, I finally started Fire Emblem Awakening the other day. Super fun! I thought it was a little too anime when I first started it, but that vibe sorta goes away as you go through the game. Playing through on hard mode (the middle difficulty of 3) is like the perfect difficulty so far. It feels like the satisfying challenge of Binding Blade without all of the bullshit.
I also finally started Path of Radiance at home, and that's wayyy easier, even on the middle difficulty, even if that difficulty is just 'Normal.' To the extent where it's really throwing me off XP. I just keep expecting the game to be like "PSYCHE! ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS ARE DEAD!" Pretty fun though. Cavalry moving after they attack is OP as heeeell. Not to mention 3 slots for just usable items and 4 slots for weapons is also really weird to get used to because of how good it is.
My understanding is that 'Normal difficulty' in Path of Radiance was easy mode in the Japanese version, and that Hard is more like Japan's original difficulty.
That probably explains why Radiant Dawn is so much tougher too - it's more in line with the original Japanese difficulty level.
