Playing through on hard mode (the middle difficulty of 3) is like the perfect difficulty so far. It feels like the satisfying challenge of Binding Blade without all of the bullshit.

I also finally started Path of Radiance at home, and that's wayyy easier, even on the middle difficulty, even if that difficulty is just 'Normal.' To the extent where it's really throwing me off XP. I just keep expecting the game to be like "PSYCHE! ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS ARE DEAD!" Pretty fun though. Cavalry moving after they attack is OP as heeeell. Not to mention 3 slots for just usable items and 4 slots for weapons is also really weird to get used to because of how good it is.

My understanding is that 'Normal difficulty' in Path of Radiance was easy mode in the Japanese version, and that Hard is more like Japan's original difficulty.

That probably explains why Radiant Dawn is so much tougher too - it's more in line with the original Japanese difficulty level.

That's correct. The original Japanese had Easy, Normal, and Hard. The US version dropped hard, created a new difficulty easier than Easy, and renamed the other two to match the new system. This lead to problems when Radiant Dawn came out because if you had a US Easy save on your memory card it would crash the game (even if that wasn't the one you were trying to import).

Cavalry moving after they attack is OP as heeeell.

Yes, yes it is. I think this is most pronounced in Genealogy, since you get a ton of cavalry and your enemies get a ton of cavalry (and know how to abuse them). The second generation dials down the amount of cavalry you get (at least until promotion) but those units are all already OP as hell.

It does get a good amount more difficult later mind. The hard mode is pretty mean, and has some of that enemies spawning and moving stuff you hate.

Well, atm, it's WAY too easy. Like, I'd have to really really try to have anyone die. I can't even imagine how easy 'Easy' mode is if it's easier than this. I don't mind resetting a bit later on because I'm caught of guard. It encourages avoiding over-extension of forces. It's when the whole dang game is like that when it gets annoying :/

Is there a hack or something that restores the difficulty of Path of Radiance?

I completely overlooked that we were doing Fire Emblem this month. I am tempted to start a game but with Fates coming in just 4 days...
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Thanks MrPopo for putting this up. RPGs and turn based games are usually not my cup of tea but after recently playing advance wars I always wondered about this game being from the same developers. Well so far I'm upto Chapter 16 and have really enjoyed it so far, infact its even temporarily dragged me away from Zelda Spirit Tracks! As a rookie at these sort of games I'd like to day that is not too hard, although I've replayed a couple of Chapters in order to keep characters alive! I'd recommend this game to anyone who thinks they maybe even slightly interested.

Here's a nice math problem for all of you fine folks: Hypothetically speaking, if I were to play Monsho no Nazo on the SFC, but with a propensity to be unwilling to allow any allies to die in combat, how long would it take before I broke something in frustration. Additionally, would that time be before or after finishing the game? (In this case, both chapters.)

I also have Fire Emblem Gaiden, but--.

I haven't forgotten about this. I have the first game on the way and will be starting it sometime in March.
