Like I said, it's so much slower paced. Having to grind even a bit or backtrack when you get new powerups/transformations. Weird free roaming overworld yet you usually need some kind of specific ability to get past an area. And the bosses were so dang hard because of how slow and chunky the gargoyle moves and his beams/attacks are utterly dinky lol. I could never get used to the weird slow hovering/flying either.

Super Ghouls is just go from point A to point B and fight a boss at the end. No exploration, no shops, no free roaming, backtracking, etc, so that's kind of what I mean about simpler. It's still brutal as crap though haha, it's probably just my nostalgia talking with being able to easily get through it thesedays and I actually have a fondness for the insanely weird double jump and how it controls.

Ah, geez, I misread your post. I thought you were saying Demon's Crest was the simpler game. Massive brain fart on my part. Yeah, I can understand that. I have lots of friends that prefer their games to be much more straightforward.

I'm actually reminded a bit of Egoraptor's comparison of Castlevania vs. Simon's Quest... but I still love Simon's Quest.

The backtracking would be fine on its own if Firebrand wasn't so slow and awkward. Granted the game is really short, so it's not that bad.

Don't take my criticisms too heavily. It's a nice game with amazing music and wonderful graphics, I just don't care for it much. It's hard to put my finger on exactly why because I'm usually alright with slow and ponderous platformers and I do like the other Gargoyle's Quest games.

The problem isn't invisible blocks; it's invisible pits.

The invisible pits weren't so invisible with Nintendo Power. :) I'd probably dislike the game to a point too had they not had that fold out poster which laid out all the mansions and had a map of the land too. It's actually sometimes my favorite on the old system as I loved the exploration aspect of it and buying junk too plus some of its unique (and still unique) gear was just cool and fun to use too. Drac was a wuss though, total pincushion to raging out with the diamond attack.

Speaking of invisible pits, that's what the Holy Water was for. Of course, it made things a bit tedious, but you could definitely suss out where they were.

I just got Animaniacs and one I've been looking for a long time, X-Men Mutant Apocalypse. Who'd have thought Capcom could make a better X-Men game than anyone else, and use Street Fighter commands for moves no less!

Weird. They should try combining the two!
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

If you like Mutant Apocalypse, be sure to give Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems a shot.
