Ninja Scroll turned me on to anime, for reals.

I prefer the manga, honestly. The best part of Love Hina (and Negima, the series I prefer) is Akamatsu's art.BoneSnapDeez wrote: I will admit to some guilty pleasures. Like Love Hina. Even read the manga. *gulp*

If you wanna get a good feel for the current cultural zeitgeist of anime without resorting to watching highly derivative otaku pandering trash, I'd highly recommend you watch Bakemonogatari (the first season of the Monogatari franchise) and Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (again, the first season). Both are incredible in their own right (although that becomes debatable once you go past the first seasons) and have been the absolute biggest influence on what 99% of the trash out there today was inspired by.
I could litter this post with tons of recommendations to shows you've probably already heard of, but I'd rather keep it small and solid.

Maybe someone here can explain this one to me, why is it the original Fox 2002 dub of My Neighbor Totoro worth like $70+ on ebay for that old DVD when there are 2 newer sets? The newest pretty recent from Disney that hit like $15.

The Fox dub showed up first in like 1994, it is the one that alot of people grew up with. Since Fox lost the rights, and Disney's dub is different (more true to the original script in many ways), the Fox dub has become scarce for those who want the version they grew up with. It is the same reason why the Rankin Bass Hobbit sells for $5 on DVD, while the Laserdisc (which has all the sound effects) still sells for over $100Tanooki wrote:Maybe someone here can explain this one to me, why is it the original Fox 2002 dub of My Neighbor Totoro worth like $70+ on ebay for that old DVD when there are 2 newer sets? Thanks, and makes sense. I've got a bug about that one one other release. I got into anime movie stuff in the 80s partly not knowing any better as oddly Showtime picked up stuff like that in their infancy. I recall seeing Wizards, Fist of the Northstar, and Castle of Cagliostro (Lupin the 3rd) on there in the day. I still do not like the newer voice of Lupin after the lost the one they used in the 80s/90s at Funimation for the TV series that hit Toonami and those 10 movie dvds in the 2 sets which I have. When the blu-ray came out last year they put both the funimation vocal version on there and their newer one as well. Thankfully they did that, cheap and choices is far better than expensive and out of print.fastbilly1 wrote:The Fox dub showed up first in like 1994, it is the one that alot of people grew up with.
