I really enjoyed the Parasyte manga; does the anime do it justice?
Never read the manga, but the anime is banging.
The manga is AMAZING. One of the few manga I own and think is one of the best.
I'm scared to even watch the anime in fear of it ruining the story..

I was always mostly a mecha guy (both the "realistic" variety like Macross and Patlabor and the crazy super hero variety like Getter Robo and Gao Gai Gar) when it comes to anime though I watched all kinds of shows in the 90's during the big anime explosion in the US.

I hadn't watched any new anime in a long time until One Punch Man arrived. I really love how it takes the tropes of over-powered anime heroes of old and parodies them with a lot of dry wit and spectacular over the top action.

Most of what I watched before that happened to be remakes of older shows like the one of Space Battleship Yamato which was really nicely animated.

Still been meaning to check this out, I hear it's very faithful and have only heard great things. I'm stoked.

I'm sad fun space anime is dead though. Like Nadesico, or Outlaw Star, or Bebop even to an extent, etc. Sci-fi / mecha is my bread and butter for 70's-90's, but just hasn't been the same ever since then. :(

Can't wait for the Discotek release of Giant Gorg... that is literally like the last 80's Sunrise mecha series I need to see. Sunrise 80's mecha anime was the pinnacle.

Unsurprisingly, like video games my favorite anime is from the 80s and 90s.

However, unlike video games, most of my favorite anime has traditionally been the hugely popular stuff - Ranma ½, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, etc. I'll admit that this may be due in large part because I've never bothered to seek out more obscure series.

I will admit to some guilty pleasures. Like Love Hina. Even read the manga. *gulp*

I thought the 2014 series "Break Blade" was pretty good for mecha stuff:

Oh, geez, I forgot about Space Dandy. It's so ridiculous, and it's actually pretty good, too.

My anime collection is actually surprisingly diverse. I've got examples from the late 70's through the current decade. But I must admit that a lot of what I own hovers between the 90's and 2000's range. I got into a lot of the shows from the last decade late, of course, but what I did eventually find I very much enjoyed, often to my great surprise.

Anime is just like every other medium. You have to search through a ton of stuff before you find something you'll like.
