Series of articles idea – need input
Ladys and fellas, I have an concept I want to bounce off of yall.
I have the idea in my head to write a series of pictorial articles about how to install and configure emulators. I know they have been done in the past but the grand scheme here is to have a series of articles about how to build an emulation pc (up to N64/PSX), with instructions on what to buy and from where, why you need it, how to assemble the hardware, how to install the OS (windows for now, linux if I ever figure it out/someone helps), how to install and configure the emulators for the box, and what kind of controllers/adapters are worthwhile.
The idea came to me because I make guides like this for the task at work that my coworkers keep screwing up, and since making them a good chunk of the double work was taken out of my day. I figured if it worked that well with coworkers, it might work with gamers.
It was brought to my attention by one of the first people I bounced this off of that we would need to have it down to the line level – an extreme form of the Keep It Simple Stupid mentality, and that it would have to read more like a conversation than an instruction manual. But you know we will just see how it all works out.
So thoughts, ideas, suggestions, get out of my head you stupid hypocritical freak?

My friends had trouble emulating all the time so they'd probably like it, plus I wouldn't mind trying something like that too. I think it's a good idea, you got my attention.

If you could make a guide on how to configure the front end of GameEx... you would be the fuckin man!

I would even give you some money!

I'd be happy to help in any way I can. I'm also building an HTPC for the primary use of emulation.
For the adapters, I suggest Raphnet or RetroUSB I haven't tried Linux on an HTPC in a while, and I probably won't since it takes awhile to format a 1TB Hard Drive.
Last I tried, I couldn't get sound through HDMI.

If you can put together a good COMPLETE guide on how to that that it'd be great. There's a whole bunch of guides that kinda do it, but none of them are much any good, especially when it comes to mame.

Huhandythebadass wrote:id say that's an awesome idea. but what would be the best idea to me would be build a website dedicated to the guides and information so that you can direct people to the website you control and run. then if everything came together as planned you would have something to place adds on, have a forum, get sponsored by a pc building site or something along those lines. hell maybe even once you have the content, maybe you could sell it to some other site or sell the site you have going.
i know it sounds like lots more work but hey you could partner with someone to help you build the site while you work on the content... then you could partner with some other gaming sites to make the site popular.

The only way to deactivate the ray beam and fight back the vampire alien threat is with a complicated series of foot patterns on the device's control board that looks remarkably like a DDR pad. We will all praise this man for saving our lives and buy him a mountain of stuffed animals.

t0yrobo, that is the main push back I am getting from people. First thing out of most of their mouths.
