Wow, you managed to say pretty much everything I disagree with. Awesome job. :)

(I wouldn't mind them creating another franchise... but the question is, will people embrace it?

If it's as creative and fun to play as the NES era SMB and Zelda were to play back then I would see people embracing it. Imagine games with 80s and 90s Nintendo imagination, but with the possibilities of today's gaming hardware? I tried to slog through the last 3 Zelda and Super Mario games, I just couldn't do it. I felt I've done it a thousand times prior. Pikmin, while a pretty great idea, wasn't the next Mario or Zelda.

I feel they need to make a new game franchise that makes you feel like the first time you played a Mario or Zelda game. I just don't think that they have the same magic that made them so popular to begin with. I think they're riding on the coattails of phenomenal ideas of days past and peoples nostalgia. I love Nintendo and I want them to succeed, but continuing on milking out Mario and Zelda will last only so long. I did sort of enjoy the remake of DQ IV though. :) Also Metroid is long due for a sequel. Just give it to Retro and not Team Ninja lol.

"Any entry of Earthbound"??? You tried all three Mother games, then?

I love the entire Dragon Quest series but VIII and IX are certainly the best.

(I wouldn't mind them creating another franchise... but the question is, will people embrace it? Personally, I'd rather see them go back to the well on some previous stuff. In particular, freaking Metroid. Also, F-Zero for 'xumy.)
I agree with Sarge 100%; corn's a heretic, and we definitely need new Metroid. Fast Racing Neo proved how freaking amazing F-Zero style racers still are, and while that game takes the title of "Best F-Zero Game Nintendo Never Made" in my book, I'd still love to see a legit F-Zero game. It's been, what, 12 years since the last one?

Metroid, too, needs to come back. Metroid Prime was amazing, and (here's my unpopular gaming opinion) I loved Other M, too. What I'd also love to see is a new console Fire Emblem game (as excited for Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem as I am, I don't count it as a legit Fire Emblem game). I LOVED Awakening and am eagerly awaiting Fates (with both versions pre-ordered), but I want another SRPG masterpiece on console, be it Wii U or NX.

I'm not sure if I've played all of the Earthbound games, as localization has been not exactly friendly to say the least. I did play the NES, SNES and a little of the GBA one. I did not enjoy any of them. Which is strange because I love quirky games and I thought I would have loved them. Imagine my disappointment when my opinion differed from everyone's I've read.

Dragon Quest VIII was the only one I really enjoyed, the rest I you could say I endured. I played IV on the NES way back in the day. I remembered liking it. Played VII wow it sucked, like really sucked. I replayed IV V and VI on the DS after I beat VIII and hated V and VI. I kind of liked IV. I thought the story and characters in IX was severely lacking when compared to VIII. So you could say since I played VIII it ruined my expectations for the rest of the series.

I loved the first Dragon Quest, but the second one failed to impress me. Maybe I had hyped it for myself too much with how much I loved the first one, but it just felt bland to me.

Actually, I can see your not liking Earthbound, because it's coupled with not liking any of the Dragon Quest games except VIII. Me, I practically grew up on Dragon Warrior, so I've enjoyed pretty much every entry. (DQVIII was awesome, though.)

Ehh corn has a point, to a point. Their main franchises are blending together to where you can get that played out feel, or they make really stupid tweaks that kind of suck the fun out of the games. I haven't finished a Zelda game in a long time, probably the last being Wind Waker (and not HD) and LBTW open world ugh(still have it). Mario I can do it, just to finish it yet not doing extra stars like I'd do on Mario64, but not always as the Wii game bored the hell out of me, I never finished NewSMB2 3DS either(still have it though.)

I think the idea of going back to the well is very smart, but also I think that concept of using old style and new tech would be well done, if done right. Doing it wrong would be like using the cookie cutter style NewSMB has which really didn't play to the WiiU strength. While panned by some (mostly story) Metroid OtherM has a good idea going there partly. Now had the story not stank, and they only kept it going left and right style while still being a 3D design/feel to it keeping in the feel of the SNES and GBA style games that would be a dream completely. And yes, what about F-Zero?! That seemingly died with a game we didn't even get - F-Zero Climax which is amazing. Why not a 3D version of that, it transitioned well on GC and N64.

Kid Icarus was resurrected from assumed permanent death and that 3DS game is amazing, would be even more amazing if they did a full platformer and not a 1/2 starfox type thing. They have this huge well of old games from the 80s and earlier/mid 90s they've not touched in ages, or finally did around the early 00s with Advance Wars and Custom Robo which they've again abandoned annoyingly, at least Fire Emblem lives for its fans.

They are a huge untapped resource of old material from 15-25 years+ back they could exploit and don't, and they're morons for it. Nintendo lives in their own little island of their own thanks in part to quality and in part to delusional fanboys who will buy anything they release no matter how good or mediocre it is. It wouldn't hurt them to throw some games at the wall and see what sticks if they're too afraid to make a new mascot. Hell they could even resurrect something odd like Mach Rider and bring that into the modern era, people love fast bikes/cars and crap that blows up.

...and corn I'm with you more or less, Earthbound/Mother is not that fun and grossly overrated. I keep the SNES game around as I like to punish myself ever so often, but if it were a $20 game and not $200 (and even more w/guide which I have too) I'd have long ditched it. Price influences ownership, but I've had 3 and it is awful in the changes (and boring too), and the old one is just rough and I have a new parts bootleg (INL parts) I need to sell but I keep putting it off.

I don't think they're washed up, and frankly I'm glad they're around. The Sony and MS consoles are too similar. I'm glad Nintendo goes against the grain. We definitely don't need another console just like the PS4 or Xbone.

Also, they did make a new IP: It's called Splatoon. Don't get me wrong I'll be the first person to say they need to branch out more, but just saying they did come up with a new IP.

Regarding their output in the last five years I agree with this. It's been quite a while since I've played a recent Nintendo developed game that blew me away. Zelda especially needs a compete overhaul with a new director and new producer and new designers. I think Nintendo still has the potential to do awesome things, but the longer they keep playing it safe and regurgitating nostalgia titles the less I care.

Also yes Nintendo has made a few new games. But stuff like Splatoon, Tomodachi Life, Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition, Chibi-Robo! Zip Lash, Style Savvy 3, Pokémon Art Academy, and Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival just does not appeal to me.

Nah, I can't agree with this one.
