From what I recall the adapters are hard to find and expensive.
Get a PC Engine Duo playa.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Anyone who has glanced at my Steam profile has seen that it (somewhat) jokingly reads "Are there any Atari games on here????"
Well, look what's in the news today......

The methods of making PC Engine games work on Turbografx are more expensive than just buying a PC Engine.ElkinFencer10 wrote:So speaking of PC-Engine, the TurboGrafx-16 region locked, isn't it? Now get Ys 1 through 4.
I'd recommend getting a PC Engine Duo and a Turbografx for an affordable set up with the widest compatability. The CD games are region free, it's just the HuCards that are locked.

Totes off-topic guys, but I know someone can answer these.
1) When does one consider Magmax for the NES beaten? It just loops and loops.
2) What's considered an okay score? I got 168,600 on my second try.

I can't help you with specifics regarding this game but thanks for bringing a previously unknown (to me) Nihon Bussan arcade classic to my attention!Key-Glyph wrote: 1) When does one consider Magmax for the NES beaten? It just loops and loops.
With "loopers" I consider them beaten once the "environments" (that is, the levels themselves) start looping. In other words, when you start to see the same level designs again and the only changes are to things like position of power-ups, speed of enemies, and so on. To give an example: I consider Mr. Do! (ColecoVision) beaten after level 10.
(The only inherent problem with this method is the fact that some older games feature only one distinct environment. See the conversation about Elevator Action that occurred last year.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
More thoughts on the games I've played.alienjesus wrote:My girlfriend is away for the weekend, so I have the house to myself. I could throwan epic party, but that's too much work, so I decided that this would my weekend plan instead:
Bomberman was Bomberman. It was a pretty old-school version, so it got a bit tedious after a while. I did beat it though! Another one which should be on the ol' games beaten list soon.
Dynamite Headdy was next up. I got the furthest I've ever managed so far, the world 6 boss Baby Face. He was really tough though, and I burned through all of my continues on him.
Then I had a quick blast at Bubble Ghost, which only arrived today so was my first time trying it. The game's alright, good for a 5 minute blast. Pretty tough though, I only got to room 13 of I think 30? I love the aesthetics, the ghost is super charming. And the music is fucking awesome, how comes no-one ever mentions it? Take a listen guys:
After that was DoDonPachi Resurrection. I originally intended to just see how far I could get with 3 credits, but seeing how I was on the last level when my credits ran out, I decided to just finish the game. I used 6 credits in the end - DoDonPachi is way easier than Akai Katana.
Then another game that just arrived today - Rocket Knight Adventures. This one is brilliant. I love old-school Konami, it just gels with me much better than the likes of Capcom, somehow. I ended up playing through the whole game here too, so I guess thats 3 I need to add to the games beaten thread.
And the last one for the day, and the 11th game I've played was Trax. This one only arrived yesterday, so it's another one I'd never played. It's really short and super easy, but it has that classic HAL Labs charm, I had fun. I also beat it, so hey, 4 for the games beaten thread. Not bad for a days work
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Seeing as I would play it till about the 3rd or 4th loop, one loop is enough. Especially if you stayed underground during much of it.Key-Glyph wrote:Totes off-topic guys, but I know someone can answer these.

(hey, I won this game from one of those "guess the number/symbol" carnival wheels on the boardwalk. I had a choice of an NES or GB game. I might have chose poorly! But I played the heck out of this.)

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
If you can lay your hands on an 8 pole double throw switch, there's a ridiculously easy physical mod to do for it (one side connects the 8 pins the way they should be for US, one for JP) but good luck finding that switch... Mine's done, but yeah probably not worth it if you have space for both.ElkinFencer10 wrote:So speaking of PC-Engine, the TurboGrafx-16 region locked, isn't it? Controllers are easier to come by for pce too.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
My 360 is acting weird when it's set in 1080p. It worked just fine yesterday, but today the screen is flickering like crazy when set to 1080p mode, even with a few different HDMI cables.
Setting it to 720p seems to have stopped the flickering. Anyone know why this might be?
