This is the Unpopular Gaming Opinions thread. We can do that here. Get over it.
Hooray, another place on the forum I'm not going to. This is fun.
Why avoid contrary opinions? Discourse and discussion, agreement and disagreement, can be interesting. Why put ourselves continually in what Dave likes to call an echo chamber?

See this is why it's just easier to stay (at least) a full generation behind. That way by the time you do actually get around to playing [insert name of today's latest and greatest game], the hype train has died down, and you can peacefully judge it on it's own merits without the constant din of cognitive dissonance.

... Of course if you actually want to talk about games that are a full generation behind, most responses are going to be, "Dude I am soooo over that. What are you like 40? But whatevs, I'm glad you enjoyed/hated it grandpa "

(In truth that's one of the things that makes Racketboy so great ... it's the red hot pogs discussions)

Indeed. This concept in itself is the basis of my username.

Since my name was invoked, I shall post a link to the only other times I posted something of substance to this thread (both roughly three years ago):

This was the first, and it was glorious:

This was the second, and it seems apropos:

Come on, man. Don't you hate Shenmue? :P
I don't hate it, but I think it sucks at what it tries to accomplish and I found it painfully boring. And really, that opinion isn't at all unpopular in the grand scheme of things, becasue the Shenmue games weren't liked enough/didn't sell enough copies to produce enough demand for a third title.

There's also a lot of comments here that aren't differentiated between whether they are unpopular "on the whole" or "amongst gamers" or "amongst retro gamers" or even "amongst folks on this forum". So there's that.

In any case, I can't decide if this thread is simply a circle jerk of trying to see who can have and defend the most "unpopular gaming opinion" as a way of gaining some kind of distinction as a unique, independent thinker (who *OMG* can bring shock value) or if the thread is also functioning as a place for stupid trolling.

When we talk about having discourse over a topic, I would recommend people read my posts. At no point was I angry or dismissive of a group of people for their tastes and preferences. I want to make clear that I did not call anyone a name, or generalize a group of people based on an overall preference. I stated my reasons as to why others found it appealing and also how the gameplay is fulfilling and enjoyable.

If for some reason, you feel I was being unfair in saying that a game is not a, "hipster fad," then I highly recommend we have a genuine conversation via voice chat. I feel like a lot of things get jumbled up with the written word and tone is inferred.

People are always entitled to their opinion. I am not trying to justify why you should or should not like a game. All I was trying to say was that the game is enjoyable and that people shouldn't be written off for liking it.

Yeah, a lot gets lost in text, and there's no reason to get personal about things or attack one another, even on the "unpopular opinions" thread. For my part, I apologize if I came off as hostile at any point. My frustration is with the inundation I have in my personal life because all of my friends are full steam ahead on the hype train, not with the game itself or with fans of it in general. Sorry if I tangled that up along the way.

Undertale is a hipster fad. That's my own personal opinion. And I won't change my personal opinions just because someone doesn't agree with them. Now I realize that's an unpopular opinion concerning Undertale. Hence I wrote that opinion in this thread. You know, the thread where we are encouraged to share our unpopular gaming opinions. Or did I read the sign on the door wrong?

Don't get me wrong, personally I appreciate what Undertale is and I love the creator's positive attitude towards criticism, basically telling his fans to chill out.

I think the fan and anti-fan wars its stirred up is pretty insane especially given the pacifist message of the game.
