Agreed.
Speaking of which, that Unreal Tournament Pre-Alpha is pretty awesome.
Turns out it is. I gave it a try last night and was pleased to see the feel is still good and they got rid of the chunk Gears of War armor. And man, the engine was PRETTY.

I think I'm having this same issue, but not just with first person shooters. I recently was playing a game on my Xbox One when I suddenly realized that I just wasn't having fun. I've been having that issue with the system in general. I think maybe the games are just too focused on competition now, with barely any local multiplayer. I just don't feel like games on the Xbox One and PS4 focus on fun anymore. Maybe that's why I've moved more towards playing my Wii/WiiU games and older systems now.

Yeah, I definitely agree with this. Battlefront is fun for a while, and I enjoy Call of Duty for 30 or 45 minute bursts every now and then, but in general, there's no depth or real variety. They just don't hold my attention very well.
I guess this is why developers are rushing alpha products onto Steam to take advantage of the "need" of players to tell their own stories in sandbox environments. Look at all those dinosaur/space/zombie/underwater survival games.. People want to interact with each other and act all tribal and badass
