No, Napishtim was originally developed and released for PC in 2003. Then it was ported to PS2 in 2005, but with some graphical downgrades.* And then it was ported to PSP in 2006, with further graphical downgrades.** I only recommend the PC version of this game.

*The batshit crazy blood and gore effects were removed due to console games requiring a rating. They changed the character and monster graphics from glorious pre-rendered 3D sprites to crude polygonal 3D models. Resolution was lowered to PS2 standard.

**Same downgrades as above except the resolution was lowered even further to PSP standard.

The bump system rules! One misconception is that it's unique to Ys - it's actually really common among retro action-RPGs. In fact, of the last 5 ARPGs I've played 3 used the bump system (and none of those were Ys games).

You should play Origin though Xeo. That game SLAYS.

Heck I was even playing with my Xbone controller, if controllers supposedly make it better? It just felt like I was doing nothing. Ragnarok Online was more interactive in combat.

Well first of all not all bumps are created equal. The bumping in Ys is way better than the bumping in Hydlide, for instance. Ys is the gold standard of bumping, truly.

As for why you should like it - well, that's like asking "why" we should like the gun mechanics of Contra and Metal Slug. In the case of the Ys I & II bump I'd say that it's simply an extremely well-programmed mechanic and a nice change of pace from the "usual" forms of combat.

Those are console action-RPGs. Ys is a retro computer action-RPG (PC-88 originally), not to mention the fact that it was first released in '87. Ys is way more similar to Hydlide, Xak, and Lagoon than Zelda, Seiken Densetsu, Soul Blazer...

Not to be a smart ass, but are you sure you're playing the game correctly? You should be striking enemies off-center, from a diagonal, or from behind to maximize damage to them and minimize damage to you. (When you level up you'll be able to take on weaker enemies head on). Ys I (I assume you're playing on Steam or GOG?) is pretty quick and streamlined and you shouldn't get bogged down too much with grinding. It's fine if you don't like the game, I just want to make sure you're not missing anything.

Oh, and to reiterate, play Ys Origin. It was released during (what I think is) your favorite era of gaming and has more traditional action combat. It's really fast-paced and almost Symphony of the Night-esque as the entire game world is contained within one large tower.

I wasn't sure if he had the self-awareness to make it a joke.

Also, what's wrong with bump combat? I haven't played too many ARPGs, but the bump combat in Desktop Dungeons (free version) works great.

When I was cooking up the post in my head, it was just supposed to be me expressing that I had thought it had grown old. Before I started typing, the stale thing came into my head and I thought it would add some spice to my post. Perhaps I shouldn't have done that, because someone started grilling me over it.
Insert clever quote here.

Nah, I totally got the corners thing and all... but eh, definitely wasn't for me haha.

I'll check out Ys Origin sometime. Seems like most say it's better than The Oath in Felghana. Sadly, while I can praise the aesthetics to some of the others in the series, I really don't like the graphical style in these that much at all. But I can get past that and try it out sometime.

Origin murders Felghana.

And yeah, the "modern" look of the more recent Falcom games is well-done though it doesn't thrill me as much as the classic anime art seen in Ys 1-5, Popful Mail, Brandish, and others.
