I noticed something puzzling. Many of the games I've downloaded already have save data. This struck me as really odd, until I thought about it some. See, FDS games obviously don't use SRAM w/ a save battery (this is considered a separate "file" by emulators) nor do they use additional blank floppies to save. Instead save data is written directly to the disk. Most of these old games lack a "delete" function like The Legend of Zelda. If old data already exists on the disk then your first save can be used to overwrite it (much like Final Fantasy). Point is, these disks are forever altered once that first save was made back in 1987 or whatever - and most of the disk images that were dumped and are now floating around the 'net have someone's old save contained within. Big shout out to the guy who named his RPG protagonist SHITHEAD.
(Technically you can erase data and overwrite the disk completely but it requires additional third party tools)
Yeah I'm really enjoying this trend. I would never think to track down a PS2 version of Mushihimesama... but a $20 digital port on Steam? Yes please! I just wish more of this stuff would come over to GOG.Fragems wrote:Yeah I wish more companies would just accept emulation and port stuff over.
