I very much enjoyed todays direct. Excited for StarFox, Pokken Tournament, StarFox and Cloud in Smash Bros.

And there was a ton of 3DS confirmations too, right when I was thinking the line up looked really barren.

Yeah I am really excited for pokken. The game looks like a tekken meets budokai tenkaichi so that is exciting. Cloud in smash is cool as well. I am really excited for pokemon picross since I love that style of puzzles.

I am confused still about the animal crossing party game. So little is being said about it and I want to know!

My daughter watched it with me and she was most exited for star fox and smash bros. Cloud.

My kids also watched, and my son thought Star Fox looked incredible.

What's everyone's impression about Amiibo Festival?

I'm torn on it. The game is really quite cute, but beyond that, there's not much going for it now. You start out right off the train going into the board game. You then complete a full game, which can be about 1h15m long, or playing through one calendar month. Each turn is one day. So around 28-31 turns per game. During which, you collect happiness points and by the end convert your remaining bells into happiness points (who says money doesn't buy happiness?). The exchange rate is 1,000 per happiness point, so if you've hit the stalk market just right, you'll likely win.

After the first full game, your happiness points get saved to the amiibo you're using, which can be leveled up and offer new outfits. Oh, controlling your character, you tap the amiibo to roll the dice. Every time. And you occasionally have to pick a direction to head when there's a fork in the path. That's really it for gameplay. If you're playing by yourself, it's tiresome to watch the computers take their turns, especially if special characters show up and do their spiel over and over if you land on their spaces. By the third time a character lands on Katrina's spot on that given day, you're trying to speed through it.

By your third match you unlock the plaza and some minigames, which guess what, you can unlock the currency used to buy these minigames by playing the board game. I've heard so far that the desert island game (like Settler's of Catan) is by far more engaging than the full experience. You can also use the Amiibo Cards to customize the big board game, but I haven't unlocked it yet.

It'd totally be better if we could do some online matches, but that's largely missing and to be honest almost a deal breaker.

I'm going to slog through some more game modes to unlock stuff. Thankfully you can shorten the game time to a fixed minute option. I'm going to keep doing 30 minute matches until I can unlock some more modes. Just be aware, if you were expecting a lot, you're going to be disappointed. I am hoping that with content updates and unlocking stuff as I play the game, this will be a little more exciting.

So here are the things that a lot of people are saying are redeeming values to the game that you have not experienced. So I guess you can upgrade and customize the town itself, how I don't know, I haven't played the game yet, but the real draw is a game mode where the map is a desert and you and the other players must gather resources to try and survive the desert. That mode is supposedly a lot of fun!

I am probably going to rent it and play it with the wife to see if it is worth owning.

Another example of me shaking my fist at Nintendo for duping me into going digital first only to have a physical edition released way later (Super Luigi, Duck Tales, NES remix, this).
