What was the last movie you've seen?

Gets like 3 lines towards the end.

Like all things Stephen King, this adaptation is a mix of chilling and goofy. Obviously the CG creatures fall into the latter category. They could have saved a ton of money by just keeping events to the store with minimal dimension-X goofeballs. Also, that ending, less shocking than when I first viewed it, and drastically more defeatist in retrospect. Andrea and Dale (TWD) getting suicikilled in the head, in the same car though

So are people genuinely expecting the new Star Wars to be good? I'd call delusional inclination. As much as I love Bladerunner, no way in hell the sequel is going to come close. Such productions are firmly rooted in their respective eras. You can't write a No. 5 in C minor in this day and age, you can't spread a new Abrahamic faith in today's world, you can't film a Star Wars that captures the essence of the new-aginess of episode IV-VI.

Dead Rising: Watchtower. Good but it felt like The Walking Dead with edited-in Dead Rising game footage.
Houdini, this short (~60 minutes) animated French film. Pretty damn good.

Nah, the new Star Wars film will most likely be mediocre, like most everything contrived in Hollywood.Pulsar_t wrote:So are people genuinely expecting the new Star Wars to be good? I didn't even hear about the blade runner sequel. First Indiana Jones, then Star Wars, now Blade Runner? What happened? Did Harrison Ford loose his retirement fund on an ill-advised trip to Las Vegas? Is Harrison Ford doomed to keep making half-assed sequels to his most popular films just to stay afloat?

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
To be fair, none of those movies have come out yet, so we don't reasonably know how everything will turn out. It's entirely new everyone, almost, on the production side.
And, George Lucas was the primary reason for how Crystal Skulls was they way it was. (Outside of CGIfest), he's no longer in the mix.
The only fair sentiment I think you could make is that the reception to all of them will be mixed. Purely because people are seeing them WAY after the relevance of the original films. That alone will shade people's judgment, regardless of quality.

Jurassic World
It was alright, not as bloody as I thought it would be. 1st one will always be the best one.

So, though really the only US horror films I like are monster films, I've been really feeling Asian horror lately and have checked out a few.

Hausu - I really dug this and enjoyed the quirkiness of it, and was able to be thoroughly entertained even though I was sober. Definitely like the Scooby Doo meets acid vibe.

I Saw the Devil - which was conveniently on Netflix streaming. This was awesome, and although not necessarily scary, made for a great gory action film with an excellent psychological thematic. This was awesome, and I'd love to see more like it.

Last film I watched was Noroi: the curse. This was described to me as a Japanese Blair Witch Project, which after reading further into it, is a pretty shitty description. It's one of those "discovered footage" films, and though I thought it was interesting, it was a bit slow and until the end, felt pretty lackluster. Still, I feel this genre doesn't get enough love and I think it's certainly of high quality.
If anyone has some suggestions for must see foreign horror films, hook me up! I'm not sure why I just can't get into American horror films, but i'm really liking the foreign stuff i've been watching. I think next up on my list is the film rendition of "Uzumaki" (or Spiral). Looks pretty eccentric and out there visually, and is supposedly a decent take on the manga, so I think i'll check it out.

Oh man I have been dying to watch NOROI! I remember reading about it on a "Top 25 Horror Films you have never heard of" list.Ghudda wrote:

The trailer creep-ed me out immensely!
