Just another capture card question

So I've gotten into a pretty nice routine of playing games in my backlog and writing about them. This is leading to me really wanting to record my own content to use for my publications, and so i'm looking for capture card options. I actually previously owned the Elgato HD capture card that has the attachment for composite/component alongside HDMI. It worked great compared to the other cards I had tried, which isn't say much because the elgato is the only card I've ever been able to get to work (always due to software compatibility issues).

Does anyone use any other offshoot recorders to record content with? I know there are DVD based recorders, where you can literally write to a DVD directly, but I've never tried it. Since I don't have any desire to stream content, a physical recording device may actually be great so I don't have to worry about hard drive storage limitations later down the road.

TL;DR what is everyone using to record content? Is the elgato HD w/ component adapter sill the best option for 480p and lower content?

I use a Sony RDR-HXD870 DVD Recorder to capture all my Famicom, PS1, PS2, GameCube, Wii, CMVS and SuperGun footage. It really does work great - push the button on the remote controller and the recording starts hassle-free, no need to worry that my computer is on or that it decides to start running checks or updates that might cause a hiccup in the recording. Afterwards I just rip the DVD and do whatever I need with the footage using various programs.

I do use the Elgato Game Capture HD to record footage from Xbox 360.

Well, i'm gonna warn you about modern youtube. This website will not detect your gaming videos as your own content. Copyrighted music all over modern games and such stuff extremely annoying and can lead to serious troubles with your google account. So be careful with it.

Yeah, these sound super convenient. I do wish there was a significant price difference between them and capture cards, but that doesn't really seem to be the case. At the same time, I bet older model DVD players work just as great as newer ones for SD video game recording. I may just need to keep my eyes open on Craigslist or at Goodwill for a used older model.

I appreciate the heads up, and I do understand the strict copyright rules that YouTube now enforces. I'd most likely not post footage to YouTube anyways, and most likely resort to somewhere like archive.org to host it, which I believe is pretty lenient about that sort of thing.
