Found some new import Saturn titles in my area recently.
Fatal Fury 3. I didn't know much about the quality of the port going in, but I must say I was fairly disappointed. Game speed is SLOW for the most part. In some levels, game speed seems correct, but then it goes to shit once anyone starts to oversway. The game doesn't appear to support RAM expansion.
Cyberbots. I've been in search of this game for quite some time so was pretty excited to finally add it to my library. I really enjoyed my time with it! Bengus artwork in-game looks really cool!
How is your Saturn gaming going?

DRAGON FORCE OWNS
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
FF3 came out in June 1996, before they made Saturn ram carts. The first Saturn ram cart came out in September 1996 packaged with Real Bout.CD AGES wrote:Found some new import Saturn titles in my area recently.

I got FF3 not too long ago myself. I knew it was terrible going into it, but I had all the other FF games on Saturn so I felt like I had to do it eventually.
Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
Well FF3 def coulda used some addition help with RoM or RaM expansion if it meant it could run at a more stable framerate.
In any event, I don't regret it. I got it for a cheap price and what simply got me to buy the game in the first place when I saw it was that damn nice cover art! Shinkiro does Terry justice
I think I may end up skipping Real Bout and RB Special ports on the Saturn tho. I already own FF BA Vol.2 and Garou Densetsu BA Vol.2

Damn straight it does! This is one of the many games that give me reason to say that the Saturn is my favorite system of all time. you have 6 full fledged campaigns each running around 30 hours a piece and after completing 1 of the 6 you unlock 2 more complete campaigns. The level of strategy and entertainment from it is honestly one of the best. Easy to pick up, play and learn and you can play forever!BoneSnapDeez wrote:DRAGON FORCE OWNS
The REAL problem is that the game is soooooo sexist! Want easy mode? Play as the oversexualized lady elf! I mean come on!!!!!!
Seriously though, there are few games that have the replayability as Dragon Force.

Well, if you do end up getting them, they're not nearly as bad as FF3 - they're pretty good, as far as I can tell.CD AGES wrote:Well FF3 def coulda used some addition help with RoM or RaM expansion if it meant it could run at a more stable framerate.

I'll certainly keep that in mind, thanks.the7k wrote:Well, if you do end up getting them, they're not nearly as bad as FF3 - they're pretty good, as far as I can tell.
It looks like I've been on a small Saturn roll as of late. Found 2 additional games last weekend. Both JPN titles. Detana TwinBee Yahho! Deluxe Pack. Appears to be a small compilation disc containing two titles. This is my first exposure to the series. I'm really enjoying it.
The next game is Shin Oh Ken (Ragnagard). A port of a Neo Geo release, I had zero knowledge going to this game but felt compelled to try it out especially for only few bucks
I feel almost conflicted about my experience with this game. Majority of the games visuals are composed of pre-rendered polygonal based characters much like the early KI titles but nowhere near as polished. Animations feel quite choppy and the game feels devoid of any color vibrancy throughout. While the games visuals feel rather dated, the games fighting engine is quite the opposite, dare I say ahead of its time. It shares alot with the Anime/airdashers fighting genre that we know today. This game has an arieal combo system, air and ground dashes that can be canceled to attacks and a host of additional novel sub mechanics that I didn't know existed so early in the genre.

Clockwork Knight 2.
It holds up pretty well. Looks good, enjoyed the soundtrack, and the controls are pretty tight.
All in all a fun experience.

Re: How is your Saturn gaming going?
So i've finally recently added two major (at least to me they are) Saturn titles to my Collection. Both game's i've wanted for quite some time now but for various reasons have held off from buying up until now. These games are Fighter's Megamix and Vampire Savior. The former, a rather interesting 3D fighter, the game is a Saturn exclusive and remains so to this day I believe. It isn't even a port of an Arcade game. It was game designed specifically for the console, and served as a testing ground for SEGAs flagship fighter VF3. It's a very enjoyable game, if perhaps a bit too ambitious also. I'm having a good experience with it.
Vsav on Saturn was quite a surprise for me. I've held off for years from buying it simply because I have every other version of the game on other platforms. But up until recently, i've been playing the game in a fairly serious manner, learning and applying my craft by playing at local tournaments and even at EVO this year. It's a good fighter from a competitive stadpoint.
In any case, I was simply curious on the quality of the Saturn port so I finally bit the bullet got a copy to play. I must say, i'm rather impressed with this port. It's perhaps Capcom's best Arcade to Home conversion of any fighter they've released on the Saturn. The closest resolution to CPS2, seamless controls, and most impressive, a framerate that never falters for anything. Aside from some audio and very minor graphical issues, Vsav on Saturn is amazing.
