I picked up the first manga way back when it first came out (there's a Japanese import book store by my father's house) and I must say it's actually pretty amusing. The juxtaposition with the seriousness of the series kind of gives it a helping hand. It's still pretty darn stupid, but in a fun way.

There's also a spin-off called Before the Fall that is pretty good and one that delves into Levi's backstory that's good as well. It goes into more detail about the underground. I really would prefer they animate those before the joke comic. :?

IIRC, isn't the Attack on Titan OVA based around Levi's backstory?
Could be wrong on that, but I feel like it is....

I had no idea an OVA was made, but I just looked it up and it is definitely based on the manga I was talking about. I only have the first issue of the manga, so no idea if it goes longer than the OVA covers, but for all I know it's only a few issues, so it may very well be fully covered by the OVA.

Well, in that case I hope Before the Fall gets a treatment as well! Minor spoilers from the first issue (not really that much because it's the first thing that happens, but it certainly surprised me).

The story centers around a boy who was removed from the womb of a woman who was eaten and spit out by a titan. Of course, everyone's terrified of him because of the circumstances. It also, as the name suggests, takes place several years before the main series.

I finally finished Zeta Gundam! It's unfortunate that the plotting gets patchy in the last 6-8 episodes. I think the show could have used another 6-8 episodes to properly lead from one event to the next. Still, quite a fun ride. Also, it's very clear at this point that the team at LucasArts who made Metal Warriors must have binge watched Gundam and Zeta Gundam before making it; so many of the designs of the missions, mechs, and ships are clearly inspired by the Gundam UC series.

Great to know! I'm almost done with AoT; got two episodes to go. Might check out the OVA when I'm done with the series. Sucks that it's not dubbed, though. I hate reading while I watch. lol

I just finished Magical Angel Creamy Mami, which I backed on AnimeSols back when that existed. I'm glad I watched it and I generally liked it, but there were also a lot of things I had problems with. On the good side, Akemi Takada's character designs are great in a really simple 80s way. The colors make for a visually interesting show. Some of the music is pretty good, also in an extremely 80s way. I like seeing how this is the origin of a lot of magical girl tropes. And I really liked a lot of the episodes that don't focus on Mami being a pop star.

Unfortunately the overall "Mami is a pop star" story has problems. First there's the fact that she doesn't want to be a pop star but is forcefully coerced into it. Meanwhile the "mean" pop star sees her career sidelined despite the fact that she clearly wants it more and is working hard to be a star; it just made me feel a little bad for her. Then her boss hits on her all the time in the first half of the series, even though she's only supposed to be 16 years old (and is secretly a 10 year old). It's sketchy! There's a character named Midori who has a super creepazoid obsession for Yuu (untransformed Mami) and most of his appearances go for a "laugh at the dumb fat guy" style of humor that I totally don't like.

Overall, it's a decent show, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except the most hardcore fans of magical girl anime who are curious about the development of the genre.

IMO Zeta Gundam represents everything Gundam does well and everything Gundam does terribly. My biggest problem is the awful characterization of all the ladies in the show. But the robot stuff, political storyline, and action things are all really good!

Emma kicked a lot of ass, but yeah, I was yelling at the screen every time Reccoa explained her actions in the final act. It was like "this is the worst logic ever and I hate you for it."

Watching the sub of Groove Adventure Rave/Rave Master right now. I really love the humour in the anime. Ellie is a clueless dolt and Plue is...well, he is just Plue. I think I might want to try some of the games based on it.
