C'mon now, white supremacists didn't decide this election. Those minorities, which they are, always vote conservative, and the reason being is that the democrats and liberals have the support and more try to cater to the minority vote.

What decided the election were blue collar votes in the midwest. These people who were former Democrat supporters who either didnt like Hillary or felt left behind by the party.

She was unlikeable person going up against someone entertaining who wasnt part of the system many felt jilted by. This whole white supremacists taking over the nation narrative is just silly and petty.

I really don't think it's helpful to brand half of his supporters as "deplorable" and "irredeemable". With that kind of thinking, it's no wonder we often can't have constructive dialogue. Any Republican proposals will be instantly assumed to be borne from one of the various "isms".

It's true Sarge! Only uneducated, racist, gun toting corporate-shill baby boomers voted for Trump.

Who knew there were so many?!

But seriously folks, this country has been leaning hard left for a while now. Right-tug backlash to move politics towards the center again, that shouldn't have been such a shock honestly. At least not if you had your eyes open beyond the echo chamber Twitterverse and overtly liberal media outlets. Newsflash; it turns out there is such a thing as the silent majority. And this time Trump captured more of their beliefs than Hillary did. That's all it boils down to, like it or not.

Sarge wrote:I think it would be supremely unhelpful to the DNC to assume that their loss this election cycle can be chalked up to racism. There needs to be some serious introspection as to what went wrong, and racism/sexism/bigotry/homophobia is an easy target, but I would argue not the right one. I found this article an interesting read on the matter.

At the same time, there's a lot that the GOP has to look at, too. I don't know what this means for the conservative movement. I don't think Trump killed it, I think he's just a reflection of the state it has been in for a while: ineffectual, and unconvincing to the average voter.

From several posts here, I'm gathering that a lot of you agree with the Clinton "deplorables" comment. I'm curious as to what percentage folks think that actually is.
You can count me in on it. Without the "deplorables" Trump loses the election. I believe that with full confidence. I don't think every person who voted Trump is deplorable, some just don't care about his clearly racist, misogynistic, bigoted views as long as it pushes their own selfish agenda further along the tracks.

Others such as yourself Sarge, well I just can't comprehend. We have different views of the world my friend. I have never seen you behave in a manner to indicate you would be supportive of such a person, yet here we are. *Shrug*

Pushing liberal "librul" (really?) and leftist ideals aside as something sinister is plain stupid. There isn't any other way to put it. I don't agree with every conservative notion and surely I will never be a Republican, but I don't wish to vilify the entire group simply because they don't back my horse.

I'll tell you this. If Trump was a Democrat, I would have voted Republican. The man himself is deplorable.

Mike, you may as well invite Luke back into the fray. You aren't setting the bar any higher.

U mad, prof?

Search our post histories. See who's cussed more. See who's used offensive terms.

You're literally too easy. I have to be careful w/you tho, right? You'll threaten to quit the site...again. Soft like charmin.
Cussing ≠ Insulting. What counts as an "offensive term" is subjective. Excepting a few cases where I was succesfully baited, I've always been respectful in my disagreements. I can't say the same for you, lately.

Threats to quit? Never remember doing that...

You think your country has been leaning "hard left"? Really? America is "hard left"? No offence, but it's no wonder the world laughs at America's political compass and how backwards the country can be.

In any other country, the last 8 years would be considered centre-left at the most.

I don't think anyone has said that. What I have been saying is that Trump allowed people with those views a safe space to be more vocal and more active, and that makes a lot of folks scared for their safety. The racists and xenophobes think they have a man on the inside now who will cover their butts when they act out against others. That makes them more likely to act out. There is no way in which this is a good thing for America.

And Trump's disinterest in disavowing those toxic individuals (even re-Tweeting their content) leaves me concerned he might actually give those folks a free pass while president.

So you guys probably know that my general stance on this shit is IDGAF.

However, in light of the stuff I've had to deal with in recent weeks, I'll say this:

I've been bullied into voting by people I thought cared about my opinions/beliefs. I've then seen that vote shat upon by other people because I went third-party and now I'm somehow to blame for THE DONALD. I've had to deal with people I know literally fucking crying (and even seeing videos of that, CRINGE) about this horseshit and then getting upset with me when I tell them the world isn't over.

The idea that "OMG THEY'RE GONNA STRIP ALL OUR RIGHTS AND COME PUT ALL THE NON-CISHET WHITE MALES ON A TRAIN" is just as ludicrous as "THAT DAMN OBUMMER'S COMIN FER MUH GUNZ." If you believe anything any of these people say, media or politicians alike, then I feel sorry for you.

Fuck politics. I'm done playing this game. Love y'all.

Well, in the meantime, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached out to congratulate Donald Trump and hopes to further build the US-India strategic partnership.
