irixith, my reason behind this is to create a physical media to keep the games long after the console is taken offline. Some of these games may never become avialable again, and I want wouldn't want to lose some of them. (Super Meat boy comes to mind, among others.)
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360
WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

If Microsoft takes down Live, they would likely have to provide some sort of offline access key -- the majority of XBLA games verify themselves online, and some even require you to be online at all times to play. Whether or not you have a physical copy of the game doesn't matter -- it's the license and the verification that matter, not the content.

If you want a proper backup, you'll need to investigate how to JTAG and unlock your console from the DRM monster.

Really? I've never had any that need me to play connected to Live. Do you have any examples?

Final Fight: Double Impact comes to mind immediately. My 360 currently won't play any XBLA titles without being online because Microsoft can't handle something as basic as a license transfer, but I know I have a few others with the always online requirement in my game list.
The only real way to keep copies of this stuff and play it in the future will thanks to the piracy community. Your system needs to be hacked, and the games need all of their DRM removed. This is already possible with JTAGing, but not every system can be JTAG'd. It will be interesting to see how the piracy community handles preservation in the future for 360/PS downloadable games and content. (Wii is already taken care of.)

Hmmm.... Interesting. My new question is when a License transfer is complete, can you play ofline again. I might upgrade to a slim soon, even if my 360 is running 3 years strong.

Supposedly, when the license transfer is complete (and you redownload all your content, which downloads the new license information), everything will work again.
(Didn't work for me when I upgraded to a slim, and now it's been a year with still no fix.)

If you downloaded the game legally and you're locked to only playing the game on the console you downloaded it to... where is the benefit in playing it off a cd? I'm failing to see the point in this. After all, the cd is just a copy of the digital download right??
