Why dont you tell me bout some great puzzle-adventure games?

Post by mjmjr25 »

EDIT: PLEASE READ POST 17, ON PAGE 2 OF THIS THREAD, WII GAMES ONLY, PLEASE

So during my senior year, I really remember loving Stargate 64. I've always enjoyed well made point and click (or roam and click if possible) puzzle/adventure games.

I recently tried to replay Blazing Dragons (Saturn), Myst (Saturn), Stargate (NES) and Stargate 64 (N64) and found all 4 of them slow to get going, rather clunky graphically, and painfully slow to get the words / phrases out. I tend to appreciate and enjoy the graphics on older platformers and shooters, but these seemed to bother me.

More recently I bought and played Safecracker with my family. What fun, a wonderful graphically and very well-made puzzle game (not much adventure, a true point/click - solve puzzle, move on - game). I NEEEED more games like this. What else is out there? Think GCN/WII/PS2/PS3 as those are most likely to have the faster frame and dialogue loads.

I do have Pajama Sam for Wii which is fine, but certainly doesn't challenge my wife or I, the kids do enjoy it.

9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors for the Nintendo DS would probably be what you're looking for.

It's largely a visual novel, but broken up by puzzles; it's a lot of fun and has a very interesting story. The puzzles are challenging but never impossible feeling. I found myself totally engrossed.

You could probably put Professor Layton and its myriad clones into the pile as well.

Although it's not quite the same thing, I also highly recommend Ghost Trick for DS. Its more of a straight puzzle game, but it has a fun story that will keep you going. I loved it.

EDIT: Whoops, meant to edit this, not quote it

^ Thanks for the games and keep em' coming.

I should have prefaced - I realize a lot of great stuff is available on DS, and I do have the layton games, which is what i'm looking for...but on wii primarily.

I'm looking for stuff the whole family can play in this genre. We have a bunch of the 4p stuff like boom blox and racing games, we have the board games (monopoly/trival pursuit) and we have the action stuff like wii sports. But the most fun we had together was w/the safecracker game.

Zack and Wiki looks like a good bet and i'm getting that tonight.

Sam and Max looks ok, I think i'll give that a go as well.

I also like Hotel Dusk (already mentioned) and also enjoyed Millionheir for DS. It seems NDS has the monopoly on this genre. But if there are anymore for Wii, or PS3 is good too (or GCN / PS2 for that matter).

\Theres Broken Sword on Wii, but im not sure how much of a good game for all of the family it is, I've never played it.

There was a point n click called disneys magical mirror starring mickey mouse (lol, thats a mouthful) for gamecube, but it got fairly bad reviews and is apparently ridiculously easy.

Day of the Tentacle is humorous and the puzzles mostly made since.

Deja Vu has been entertaining for me so far. The game's atmosphere is just perfect.

EDIT: Oh I see you want more family oriented stuff. Hmm. Space quest 1 VGA wasn't too hard, but it wasn't too easy. The best part is if you fail in the game it's hilarious so you don't feel so bad.
