If you're out the house and your stuff is still at your parents' place and you haven't made an effort to emphasize which stuff needs kept... You shouldn't have left it at your parents' house.6

Out doing a little Christmas shopping today but I allowed myself a stop at Value Village. There was a pretty long shelf of games but nothing I wanted to pull the trigger on and their prices have gone up recently. I checked the showcase on the way out and saw a fat PS3 for $40 CAD. Took a closer look and saw that it had 4 USB ports across the front. I asked to see it and it looked like it had been treated well and warranty seal was intact. Plugged it in and it seemed to power up fine, with no yellow light issue.

Brought it home and it is 100% working. I played a PS2 disc game on a PS3 for my first time. CECHA01 model. I'll probably see if any of the people that have helped me with repairs are interested in going in and replacing the paste, then I plan on upgrading the HD and modding it to be my PS 1-3 machine. Merry Xmas to me.

Now it means I have to sell the 2 other PS3s I had been sitting on thinking I'd mod one eventually.

Nice find! I'd love to spot a PS2 compatible PS3 one day.

I got some stuff at Southeast Game Exchange 2025. Last year, I was focused on finishing up my PS3 collection, so I got a ton of inexpensive titles. This year, I got far fewer titles, but I got a couple of heavy hitters. With trades, I kept this lot under $300.

This time last year, I was unaware that War for Cybertron had a sequel so I'm glad to be done with PS3 collecting again (at least until I discover something else that I missed). I grabbed the New Super Mario Bros titles because they are a glaring omission in my DS/3DS library and not very expensive. Notably, Gex is the last of my childhood PS1 titles that I needed to reacquire. Long ago, I traded Gex and many other PS1 titles for pennies on the dollar. I'm glad to have it back.

I'm not expecting much from Kingdom Hearts Coded, but it is the only Kingdom Hearts title that I haven't played (aside from the mobile games and rhythm game). I know it doesn't impact the overall story much, and I have seen the cut scenes via one of the PS4 KH collections. I still want to play it and have it in my collection though.

Lastly, the two most expensive titles (SotN & Brigandine) are ones that I wish I had picked up long ago. They cost a pretty penny, but the vendor I got them from had them for slightly under market value. He also gave me 70% trade-in credit, which was pretty stellar.

Pickups aside, the expo was a lot of fun. Since it spanned three days instead of two, I was able to pace myself better than last year. My son tagged along this year and had a good time as well. He bought himself a Switch game, an art print, and some Cookie Run cards. He spent a lot of time at the arcade and console gaming area. He challenged me to some Ms. Pacman and won the first round. Once I shook the rust off, I was able to take the second round. He declined a tie breaker match . We attended a panel on Sonic the Hedgehog merchandise collecting together. I solo attended a panel on JRPG remakes/remasters. The members of the JRPG Pursuit podcast and Mark from My Life in Gaming were the speakers.

My only regret from the expo is not jumping on a copy of Donkey Kong Bananza for $67. I saw it early on the first day and did not think to ask if they would charge tax if paying with cash (most vendors don't). If that was tax-free, it would have been a pretty good deal on a new release. Sadly, it was gone when I made it back around to that booth on the second day.

Nice pick-ups at SEGE, bmoc! That's great you were able to finish up purchasing the PS1 games you had during your childhood. I had a similar experience with Genesis years back.

I'm also glad to hear you were able to attend a few panels. Both sound fun, but I'd especially be interested in the RPG chat. I actually really enjoyed the panels I attended at LI Retro Expo last year and it was one of my highlights of the event.

I'm saddened that this thread feels dead, I love finding deals and hearing about deals found. I've been on a bit of a lucky streak and want to share.

Image

About two weeks back I spotted from afar the telltale green on black of PlayStation greatest hits cases and ended up with this bundle. This includes a disc and manual copy of Diablo and a loose copy of Ape Escape! With a coupon I had this bundle came to just $13 CAD

This morning in a goodwill showcase these four cartridges were waiting for me. $4 CAD a piece and I'm totally pumped to have True Lies in my collection.

I hope this thread could revive, there are still some finds out there!

Nice finds and great prices!

I'd love to see more activity in this thread too but stellar deals are just hard to come by. Game collecting is a lot more popular than it was during this thread's heyday. My local game stores are usually a little above eBay prices and thrift stores either have zero games or shovelware. The last time my family did a yard sale, we had several people ask about video games so resellers are definitely abundant and scooping up the best deals.

Going out of my way for game hunting just isn't worth it anymore (at least in my area). I'm going to stick to conventions for the foreseeable future.

Very nice find, elricorico! Those are great prices for those games.

Unfortunately, I'm in a similar boat as bmoc, where there just isn't many deals to be found nearby. Living in a dense urban area, I think things get picked over pretty quickly. However, I've been in two situations over the years where someone was moving into an apartment or an office space and gaming stuff was left behind by the previous tenant. Hopefully some cheap (or even free) finds will come my way again eventually!
