You're not alone. It doesn't make it right, though. It's not quite as bad as a lot of kids having never seen Schindler's List, but it's the next rank down.

Yeah, I have it on Xbox and liked what I've played of it so far. But my problem is, I still have a bunch of other games that I need to finish before I can come back to that one.
The Call of Juarez games are also on my Want List. They look good

"Welcome to the circus of values!"
Currently Playing: Crysis (360), Destiny demo (PS3), Roadblasters (MAME)
Top tens are beyond abused cliches by now, but I wanted to mention Killzone. I liked that game so much that I actually re-played it (seldom do I replay fps title), it came out before the grey palette madness became the new cool. If I had a PS3 I would get the sequel as well.
I keep hoping someone will surprise me with a good fps game that I haven't heard about or played before.
While we're at it, since Doom 3 is your number 1, I'm going to assume you enjoy horror-themed FPS. Have you tried F.E.A.R. yet? The scares unfortunately aren't very forthcoming, but when they do occur it makes for some great moments. You'd probably also like Bioshock.
Also, at least one version of Doom can be played on nearly everything. If you want to try it on modern consoles, I'm pretty sure it's been put up on either Xbox Live or PSN. If you're at all interested in the history of FPS, I'd say you should definitely play it.
As for that list of PC titles I mentioned, certain ones do have console ports or have sequels on consoles. The new Wolfenstein saw a console port, and there are many Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games going back to the PS1.
I've also played Call of Juarez for PC. It's interesting and I enjoyed the experience, but there was more exploration than I was expecting and less gun combat. The preacher's levels are more FPS, the boy's levels are more exploratory...though I did enjoy bow-hunting rabbits.
And while I'll admit I prefer my FPS on my PC, it certainly appears we're getting away from that. And I couldn't come up with a top 10, I've played too many.
I'm going to split my top ten list up a bit. Based on the platforms I've played them for...
PC, Single-Player
1. Half-Life 2
2. Doom
3. Half Life
4. Quake 2
5. Doom 2
7. Alien vs. Predator 2
8. Wolfenstein 3D
9. Return to Castle Wolfenstein
10. Rise of the Triad Honorable Mentions: Serious Sam, Doom 3, Unreal, SW: Battlefront series NOTE: You can probably tell I haven't played many FPSs on PCs of late. I'm sure there are a few recent ones that could make this list..
Console, Single-Player
1. Killzone 2
2. Call of Duty Modern Warfare
3. Bioshock
4. FEAR 2
5. Black
6. Resistance 2
7. Halo 2
8. Metroid Prime 3
9. Far Cry 2
10. Zero Tolerance (nostalgia pick!) Honorable Mentions: FEAR, Call of Duty: World at War, Halo, Resistance: Fall of Man, Killzone, Red Faction 1+2, Ghost Recon, Doom 32X NOTE: This is where I've done most of my FPS gaming lately since most developers unfortunately design their FPSgames for consoles first, PCs second.
Multi-Player, PC + Consoles
1. Quake 3 (PC version)
2. Unreal Tournament (PC version)
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
4. Unreal Tournament III
5. Quake 2 (PC version)
6. Resistance 2
7. Modern Warfare 2
8. Left 4 Dead
9. Doom I and II (PC version)
10. Battlefield: Bad Company (haven't tried BC2 yet) Honorable Mentions: Halo 3, Killzone 2, Goldeneye, Timesplitters series NOTE: I'm not big on stuff like Counter Strike, Team Fortress, etc - though I know they are excellent in their own right.
I put way too much time and thought into that post!
I'm not a big FPS fan, but two in particular I love are TF2 and Goldeneye. I know that the keyboard is supposed to be ideal for the FPS genres, but I've always been kinda clumsy with them. Just remember flailing around Borderlands dying because I forget what everything does lmao.

I would say that TF2 is my topFPS of all time. The rest were cool and I have played most of the important shooters since they existed but they never got my attention as much.
I mean, I could list Quake here but I have not even scratched it's surface so I don't think I can really put them in an order.
Also, as always, I think that comparing Team Fortress to Quake Deathmatch is absurd, it's comparing apples to oranges.
