Re: Increased spam posting?
I wonder if a system just cracked the "duplicate post" part of craigslists security or if its all different accounts posting it.
The web's first video game public library! http://videogameexperiment.com rents all games for free and sells them for less than Ebay and Amazon! Plus we take anything in on trade-in.

The ones doing it here all add a random word at the beginning of the title, then something else random in the location field. So yeah, there's about 5 of them flooding here.videogameexperiment wrote:I wonder if a system just cracked the "duplicate post" part of craigslists security or if its all different accounts posting it.

Re: Increased spam posting?
On my local craigslist, I haven't seen the chinese spammers in about a week. Did CL figure them out and was able to stop it? I hope so.
Re: Increased spam posting?
We're working on it. We try and delete/ban every spam post/spammer we come across. You guys can help us out by reporting posts you suspect as spam.
If you come across a post that isn't following the flow of the thread, one that sounds a little strange, especially ones from 'users' with small post counts, report it. A lot of the time they don't actually advertise anything flat out, and they usually ask a non-related (or sometimes semi-related) question. The bots then update the signature with links at a later date. I'll have to admit, it's tricked me once
but if you stay vigilant and report any strange posts you come across, the mods will see it and act upon it ASAP.
Thanks for your help guys.

Re: Increased spam posting?
Thanks for being diligent in cleaning up spam on Racketboy but I was inquiring about spam on Craigslist. It seems that the Chinese spammers have been quiet on the Boston area Craigslist for a week. Is the same true for the other areas? Have people noticed?Niode wrote:We're working on it. We try and delete/ban every spam post/spammer we come across. One thing that they do is upload those pictures that describe their ads. I think this makes it a bit tougher to recognize the spam. I was looking through the page source to see if I could find easily recognizable keywords so I could write a small program to automatically flag their listings. Not so easily done.

Re: Increased spam posting?
Actually, I hadn't been looking on mine, but I just went back to Friday in the video game section and Its clear of the big spammers too. I imagine they're blocking IP ranges, which works for me. Not like anyone in China is really looking in Houston cities for old junk to buy, and IMHO anyone posting stuff for sale that doesn't live in the area is contrary to the idea of CL anyway.gtmtnbiker wrote:On my local craigslist, I haven't seen the chinese spammers in about a week. Well yes, I can wade through the usual local spammers and dumbasses, but the constant wall of bullshit from the Chinese spammers was really bad.Ack wrote:Your Craigslist has been usable?

Re: Increased spam posting?
It seems that either the spammers gave up or CL really was able to shut them down. I think I only saw 1 post in the last few weeks that was from a Chinese spammer.
Recently I listed a few items to sell on CL. The first one asked "Where are you located?".
I'm like "WTF - I listed the details, you f'ing moron &^%^$" Still, I responded and a few minutes later, I got this autoresponse:

So you might want to ignore one liner, stupid responses if you sell stuff on Craigslist.CL Spammer wrote: Dont sell this!
Just wanted to let you know that I was selling a few things on CL just like you. I ended up realizing a lot of people get ripped off, its over-all NOT SAFE anymore to meet people from craigslist. A friend of mine told me about an amazing website and said I should check it out so I did. I made about 4000$ ast month. Its great and the has helped me and friends so much. I'm doing better than my current fulltime job and this is just extra money! If I can do it, you can. Visit <spammer website url removed.
If you need any help let me know! I have no problem giving tips and tricks that I have learned so far.
Good luck with your sale.

Re: Increased spam posting?
I haven't been looking much on CL the past 2 months, but all of the terrible spammers have been gone for a while. I imaging they blocked IP ranges or something since anyone from overseas really has no business using CL anyway.
