Seriously, What Happened To Nintendo?
Re: Seriously, What Happened To Nintendo?
There's no way 70% of the PS2's library is good. But based on the review archives at IGN I would say that in only a few years, the wii has nearly caught up to the PS2 in 5.0 rated games and lower. Pretty depressing considering the PS2 had a 6 year head start.

Also we've had the "best percentage" debate already and the 32X wins:

I thought it was agreed that the Virtualboy won.

Why do you people JUST NOT GET IT?crux wrote:I'm a little surprised by the gall it takes to insult a console based on games that aren't marketed towards you, aimed at you, and don't affect you. Do you honestly have an issue with the fact that a developers would make a game intended for little girls? Do you believe that young girls don't have a right to play such games? Do you believe that a console can't support different demographics?
It's not the fact that there's been these types of games being released that bothers me. Yes, I know we've seen these games on other consoles like the NES, PS2, etc.
It's the fact that WE'VE BEEN SEEING TOO MANY OF THEM ON THE WII AND IT'S FLOODING THE MARKET WITH CRAP!
This is exactly what happened with the Atari 2600 and led to the gaming crash. But if you can't see that, then I honestly feel sorry for you. Especially if you like these types of low-budget, crap titles

Really? Because the entire substance of your post starting this thread is complaining about not just a few games, but a SINGLE game that bothers you.Weekend_Warrior wrote: It's not the fact that there's been these types of games being released that bothers me.

Re: Seriously, What Happened To Nintendo?
No Mod Man, you shut up. This is a message board designed for opinions and video game conversation and I have the right to express my opinions as well as defend them, as do you. So don't try to talk down to me because you don't agree with MY opinion. I haven't personally bashed anyone on this forum before, so grow up and learn to have a debate without being disrespectful.Mod_Man_Extreme wrote:Weekend, you've been pretty controversial and short sighted in your opinion on this thus far and I have to tell you this, shut up and enjoy the fact that you can even afford a new video game console and games for it. If you're going to complain about it then you're simply talking apples and oranges; I love Gran Turismo and other Sony franchises and I love my PS3, but I also love my Wii and all of the games I have for it.
You need to stop being so shallow as to your opinion and quit making an ass of yourself. The Wii isn't made specifically for you and you alone, it's designed for a massive audience of millions and millions of gamers both new and old. But while I may joke around about Nintendo and the Wii's current state I'm not going to turn my back on the last bastion of the old guard of gaming simply because they've expanded their audience to include a modern contemporary family demographic. I grew up with Nintendo boxes and I've kept them on top even though I'm a staunch Sega advocate. Why? Because everything they've ever made is pure quality and every time I play one of their games I have fun. So, if third parties decide to grace my console with fun exciting and new properties like MadWorld, The Conduit, No More Heroes and Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom then that's just a bonus that I should be glad I had a chance to play.
So you my friend need to quit babbling and buy what you want when you want it, not come in here and start with a general joke complaint then try to evolve it into making us dislike or even abandon one of our favorite companies just because you're foreseeing their demise when Gran Turismo and God Of War come out. This company's sold more copies of a single game than there are even PS3's in existence, so don't stat running your mouth about how everything coming our way from the Big N and it's third parties is crap, because I'll make sure to keep enjoying my fun and innovative experiences then helping them sell more of a single game than there are of your entire user-base if it means that we continue to see high quality along with memorable and enjoyable games for many years to come.

Good job taking that sentence out of context. The next sentence says it's the fact that we're seeing too many on the Wii that bothers meLimewater wrote:Really? Re: Seriously, What Happened To Nintendo?
From Wikipedia:
The term "shovelware" has more recently been used in a more general sense by video game reviewers to indicate any product of disappointingly low quality due to a lack of time and effort by the developers. Additionally, many adaptations of other works, especially films into video games, are often considered "shovelware" until proven otherwise, due to their general low quality as a result of attempting to capitalize quickly on popular properties and content[citation needed].
Shovelware is often bundled with consumer oriented hardware such as printers and scanners. Manufacturers try to add value to what are sometimes commodity products by including software to do all manner of things, some only vaguely related to the function of the hardware. Included software is often a cut-down version of the full product. Sometimes it is not possible to install just the driver; the shovelware must be installed as well.
Related to shovelware is bloatware, a negative term describing a program that has included too many features at the cost of usability, straightforwardness and use of system resources.
Much Nokia N-Gage Symbian platform software has been described as shovelware. Developers such as Electronic Arts and Gameloft have mostly ported existing Java titles over with little or no improvement.
Recently, with the increase of "budget" titles for the Nintendo Wii, the term has come to cover the plethora of games produced with new, uneducated gamers as their prime demographics. Titles such as Monster Trux Offroad, Jenga, and Rig Racer 2 are prominent examples of these.[
*Notice that last sentence directed totally at the Wii and how it basically relates to the Wii as a whole (think about it - "casual, low-budget simplicity"). Also notice that there's no mention of PS2 anywhere to be found.

Re: Seriously, What Happened To Nintendo?
Hmm...I've been thinking about that too lately, but that poses a new question for me. Even if the Wii floods the market in a similar style to the Atari 2600, will there really be a crash? I mean, we still have two other mildly successful consoles(in comparison to the Wii at least. From what I've heard, both the PS3 and Xbox 360 are selling reasonably well, and their figures are on the rise in some regions). So, could the market crash due to one console when there are others that are doing well? In the Atari 2600 days, we were flooded with not only bad games, but unsuccessful consoles as well. I wonder how this difference will play out.Weekend_Warrior wrote:This is exactly what happened the Atari 2600 and led to the gaming crash. And even if the market for games goes south suddenly, you still have that dedicated fan base who have been playing games for several decades now, so will it disappear in the way the market nearly vanished in 1983-1984? Will an American company like Microsoft suddenly fill the void and bring the video game market back to where it started, or will a new company from a different region step in, such as a Korean, Chinese, or British corporation?
Fascinating, I think. Seems gaming's heading into a brave new world, wouldn't you say?
