Shmup of the Month Club 2012
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (DoDonPachi)/2013 Schedule Poste
What's not working out? dsh, ZenErik, ExedExes, myself, and I'm sure others will be playing. Sounds good to me. If there are not enough copies available just download it, and if the guilt keeps you up at night buy it when/if it's available later.

Yeah, we have 9 people participating for Dodonpachi, which is available to anyone with a computer, for free, as well as being on multiple consoles. So, I don't see there being too many people that would have been participating all month missing out due to a lack of copies.
I'll definitely be palying, whether I end up buying it off ebay, or stealing it until Rancor gets in new stock.

This looks like a fun lineup. So, what's the best port of Shikigami 2? It was originally Naomi, so is Dreamcast the best?
Also, anyone have a tutorial on getting Crimzon Clover working on OS X?
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (DoDonPachi)/2013 Schedule Poste
Neither Zanac, Sapphire, or anything else is getting subbed for Crimzon Clover. If copies aren't readily available for purchase, those of us with copies can make the files accessible to participants privately since most of us are playing ROMs/illegal copies of most of these other games anyway via MAME. I mean FFS, those of you who voted against CC were largely planning to play a bootleg copy of a PCE-CD game (possibly on an emulator), so can we please stop discussing an alternative option for the month if supplies of the DVD turn out to be scarce?

ah, I didn't realize it was that easy Dave. As you know I'm not exactly a big PC gamer. I figured you'd need a physical copy to make it work. Shrug.

@jep
I'd say that the DC port is most accurate to the arcade, in terms of visuals and music (Although I'm not sure if it supports VGA? If not the ps2 port may take the edge visually)
However, the ps2 port has a lot of nice options from what I remember. My ps2 just broke so I have no way to go in and take a look, but I remember enough to say its as good as the Mushihimesama Futari and Raiden Fighters Aces ports, which I think are top tier.
From what I do recall, the DC port has better music quality but the ps2 port has an arranged music option (which is music from the first shiki), and actually adds modes to the game. I think the DC port has normal and extreme, but the ps2 port also has extreme 2 and extreme 3 modes, as well as tons of screen setup options that a lot of ports are mising.
On top of that, the poorly translated dialog in the ps2 port is legendary. If you bring up Shiki II, there is a at least a 50% chance someone will spout out a quote.
And its way cheaper than the DC port. I've played the game to the last stage many times, in both the DC and ps2 port, and there was nothing that stood out to me as being off in either version.

I would say that there is a difference in stealing ROMs of old games instead of buying those games from collectors, and stealing a new game instead of buying it from the developer so that they can make more games...
but we had planned to buy it from a 3rd party or off ebay anyways. Once I found out there was no way to buy it from the developer, I stopped caring.
After giving a run at CC, I thin its going to make an excellent game for a month-long competition. I had no idea what was going on, but it was awesome. Gonna set it aside until its month comes up though, already have enough on the plate

It's truly an incredible piece of work that I hope most of us at least give a shot. It probably edges into my top 10 favorite shmups of all time, it's, yeah, just incredible.

I just grabbed Castle Shikigami 2 off ebay, so I'll be ready for that.
Still plenty of time to get a hold of Crimzon Clover too. I'm excited for that one.

Agreed, though this seems to be a in-between case of the dev not sellng the game anymore at all and it only being available 3rd party or used, based on mjm's discussion with rancor.
mjm, any clarification on the 4 copies @ $30 vs the 10 @ $50 in his eBay store?
