dsheinem
Crimzon Clover

Tyranix95
Great Mahou Daisakusen/Dimahoo

I'd probably rather play something that hasn't been played in the club before, but I really like Raizing shooters, so I think I'm sticking with this.

mjmjr25
Cotton Boomerang

Somebody loves Cotton. It's good that I do too. I picked up Boomerang recently and may as well break it out of the wrapping and crack it open. As long as we don't play Cotton 2, I'll be happy, though.

dunpeal2064
Gunnail

I had never even heard of NMK before. Very cool choices by dunpeal. Gunnail reminds me a little of Toaplan shooters of the time, from videos of it. Too bad it seems like it has sound issues in MAME. Still interested in playing it anyway.

pierrot
Xexex

I had a hard time with mine. I love all three, and had a pretty big break through on Daisenpuu recently, but I'd really like to play Xexex with everyone here. I have a feeling Shienryuu will win out anyway, so I'll at least give Xexex a fighting chance.

foxhound1022
DonPachi

Love Batsugun, but for the reasons Mike mentioned, I think it might not be quite as much fun for scoring. So, since I don't have Raiden 4, and DonPachi is my preferred -Pachi on the Saturn, I'm going with that.

ExedExes
Vulgus

Vulgus would give me some extra incentive to pick up Capcom Generations vol 3 on the Saturn, but I'd be cool with any of the three.

o.pwuaioc
Star Soldier

I'm happy to play anything in the Soldier series.

EllertMichael
Homura

I've been pretty interested in finding out what this Homura thing is all about for a while.

hashiriya1
Fire Shark

This was a pretty brutal decision, but if Daisenpuu doesn't happen, Fire Shark would be the next best thing.

noiseredux
Castle of Shikigami 2

I'd like to see a little more competition on Chaos Field, but I really haven't played much of Shiki 2, and I think that needs to be remedied.

I'm having a lot of fun already, just from looking over all the choices. Some really great selections for next year. I'm pretty happy with how this process turned out.

Cotton Fantastic Night Dreams is the first game in the Cotton series and was on PCE and X6800. I've not played either of those. It was also re-released a decade later as Cotton Original (Simple Lite Series Playstation Japan). I have that and enjoy it, but doesn't have the greatest soundtrack or wacky bosses, still fun. It was also re-released on NGPC, never played that either. Both re-releases are apparently not entirely true to the original releases.

Marchen Adventure Cotton 100% is very good and plays similar to Cotton Original (Fantastic Night Dreams). Was simply called "Cotton 100%" on it's re-release, also for the PSX-J simple lite series. It plays very similar to the SFC version. I think scoring would be very comparable if it were chosen.

Panarama Cotton was the 3rd title and is a Mega Drive exclusive as I recall. Had some exclusive JP tie ins like shirts and coffee mugs of all things. Quite pricey - i've not played it.

Cotton 2, the 4th game, is brilliant. A hori shmup with almost RPG like elements and powerups and borderline platform elements. A bit like Kolibri graphically and by all counts as close to arcade perfect as they come, hence the $90 price tag. Only available on SAT-J.

Cotton Boomerang has the most intricate (not difficult) but for Cotton, the most intricate scoring system and is more of a pure shooter than the other titles in the series. It also features character selections so that is always a plus.

Rainbow Cotton took the series to the "on rails". I wish it hadn't. It is very pretty, but gameplay is miserable. Only legit Cotton fans can justify the $50 tag. I have 2 copies :/

I think the series is dead, there have been character tie-ins in other games, but were 13 years removed from the last game...which sucked.

Can we not do this? I'm not trying to be a dick, but I do not think it's unreasonable to do a few minutes of research on games you are uncertain about and make an at least semi-educated vote.

I'm not going to count half votes. I didn't last year either.

Yeah, I did actually take time to check out vids and some reviews on titles I was unfamiliar with. I can honestly say that everything I chose I either enjoy, or it sounded and looked like it would be a solid play.

It isn't a half-vote, it's an abstention. I see no problem with someone being indifferent or not wanting to sway the vote one way or the other when they really don't have an opinion or preference.

All-in-all, I can honestly say that I like the way that this went. Everyone was very amicable in voting and the choice process.

So anyone know where we're at as far as what is leading in each group of choices?

I'm the one that's going to be counting the votes and that is taking the time to organize all this, so I don't think it's unfair to request that people vote the way I ask, which is very simple and reasonable.

It's unfair to just ignore certain member's nominations for pretty much no reason and defeats the purpose of the method we chose in the first place. You guys didn't take the time to pick out games and nominate them so people could just say "defer".

Panorama Cotton is excellent, although I've only played it via emulation. It's a rail shooter like Rainbow Cotton, but it is easily on the level of Space Harrier if only a little bit slower in terms of game play. I wouldn't quite say it's worth the $200 a lot of sellers want for it, but it is a JP Mega Drive exclusive, and it's probably worth three figures at least. If they had just stuck to 2D with Rainbow Cotton, I feel like it would have come out much better than it did.
