brunoafh wrote:So, just a quick question, any ideas for club ideas in 2013? I'm going to be pretty much tied up in January, and as of now there's zero schedule ideas. Members have expressed interest in continuing the club/thread, but no real hard plans have been made. I could always make up a schedule of my own from scratch I suppose... but yeah, any suggestions/tips/anything or requests for the 2013 shmup club here?

BulletMagnet's soon to be published "The Best Undiscovered Shmups" article will be hitting RB soon. It would be cool to vote on those titles (give them some well deserved attention) and leave the more widely known games to their ongoing hi score threads.

Controversial thought of the day:

For games that win the vote (if we vote the same way), maybe games that barely win (3 votes or less?), we could have a second title also featured.

From a personal standpoint; I essentially took Exed Exes, Metal Black, and shockingly to me...Radiant Silvergun months "off" due to a large non-enjoyment factor. Would have been nice to play Ikaruga and Gekirindan with the others in our group who were in a similar mindset. I played them solo and had some PM discussion, but wasn't as enjoyable.

Thats not a bad idea, but I think it would work just as well if the people who were not enjoying the months game just started up a new high score thread, or bumped an old one, for the game that they wanted to win.

I dunno, part of the fun for me is trying stuff that I think I don't like. If there was another game available for Taito month, I would have played it instead, and would have never known that I actually really dig that game.

And everyone would have played Garegga over Dimahoo.

Having an option would be nice though, as there were some months that, even in attempt to try something new, I just could not get into some of the games.

No. No. No. Think like a ROCK STAR!

When you put on a show, you always play your best stuff (games). If the stuff is not great, then you look for another one to take it's place in the line up. It's all about putting on an awesome show for everyone--not just trying out new stuff.

===============

Now with that said:

1. As far as SOTM games go: I really had a great time playing (1) DIMAHOO and (2) MARS MATRIX and would love to see these games return to the SOTM line up next year.

2. As far as non-SOTM games go: I also had a great time playing in the (1) 19XX and (2) RAIDEN FIGHTERS: OPERATION HELL DRIVE. And I would love to see these games added to the SOTM line up next year too.

3. And, I like the "Alternate SOTM games" just they way they are: played as pick-up games in the Hi-Score Threads. I like it because it's impromptu so people can play whatever they are in the mood to play.

Some other games I wouldn't mind paying (or see adding to the SOTM list) are:

--UN SQUADRON or PROGEAR.
--RAIDEN II or RAIDEN D/X.
--RAIDEN FIGHTES or VIPER: USA / NEW EDITION.
--Either STRIKERS 1945, or STRIKERS 1945 II, or STRIKERS 1945+.

I agree... but certainly there's enough great shmups out there that we don't need to repeat ones from this year. Especially considering we really only pick 11 as we take a month off for STGT and a month.

If a game is really good, then some people (like me) like to play it a second and third time. And some people may want a re-match. I almost beat Hash, in DIMAHOO. Others may want to defend thier Scoring Title. Ehh, we'll have to wait and see, imho, it's all about the crowd likes. :D

yeah I get that, but I kind of feel like all the games we did for SOTM this year can continually be played in their own hi-score thread now y'know? I kind of feel like SOTM should be more about variety and introducing some of us to games we don't already spend a lot of time playing. Just my 2cents. I only got to participate in about half this year though.

My problem with that is, if there are new folks that want to participate, we will all have a solid month of practice on Dimahoo on anyone who is just joining. Whereas if we picked new games, we would be closer to an even level.

Plus, there is a Dimahoo high score thread. If you fire it up and take someone's top spot, they will more than likely want to reclaim their throne. If anyone ever took me off the top spot in a game I really liked (Like foxhound did in Garegga), I know I'll come back and try to take em down!

I like 2 ideas so far personally:

1) Do what we did last year and vote for devs, and then vote for games, or
2) Let Brunoath pick every game this year, and take what we get, and then praise/flame him for his decisions.

What developers finished outside of the voting last year?

Also, we must play Crimzon Clover next year.

or similarly, how many of us participate in this thread right now? If 11-ish, it would be ineteresting if we each got to pick a single game and do the little write-up to fill others in on it, and try to get everyone else into it. Just an idea.
