rough night. ShmupMAME 3b stopped working for me. After seriously 2 hours of researching I managed to get ShmupMAME 2.2 setup and got the game working... anyway, frustrated but I have figured out how to (cheaply) get technical bonuses by bombing right when shit gets sketchy and being invincible just long enough to get in and turn that blue bulb red and hit it with the power shot. I generally am getting 2 of the bosses like this, but by the time 1-3 rolls around the Rank is just brutalizing me. Again... I'm getting "better" at playing the game, but can't beat my own 314k high score.

I only found out last night that the orb turns red when you're near it and that's the only time you can hit it. I was watching the video that the guy who beat the game with 2 million posted and I was trying to get to that point without using bombs. Not good

yeah for a while I thought you had to bomb the blue orb. That same vid clued me in to just get close and power shot it when it's red. I fucking hate this game, but I'm glad I'm making progress again which makes it at least fun again for me haha.

That's exactly what I do, also. I memorized the patterns, and right before they show the weak spot, I bomb to cancel their shit out, and blast away. I've now gotten to Stage 1-6, and am close to 600K. My best is around 570, and I wanna try to break 700 to post my score before week's end.

It's funny; I'm not using the X-36. Didn't really care for it.

I use the Harrier instead; it's got crazy firepower, and slower planes force me to look at the bullet spray more closely to choose a good, safe exit.

you're on serious fire, Don. I don't know how you were hitting 200k with just the keyboard haha. That shit's crazy. I'd love to hit 400k by the end of the week honestly. Fingers crossed.

I know, dood. I just always have 1 stupid death in Stage 1-4; mostly before the boss. I know I can break 600, but seven's where I'd feel good with.

I don't understand the keyboard thing, either; those guys are just insane.

thanks man. I think I'm done right now. I pushed myself HARD to get that score. And followed up with a handful of terrible scores because I play really bad when I'm frustrated. Would have been awesome to hit 400k, but I'm still pretty proud of myself for sticking with it. I really kind of hate this game... but I don't because I've spent enough time with it to like it in a sort of masochistic way.
