When you start out stage 2, you can use that spread shot as well, to get all the red ships, you have to hold position, dead center of the screen, and duck out last second or you'll crash into the barrier, but it's the only way to get them all and get those big chain points.

Finally made it to the 3E boss, but with no lives.

After about an hour, here is what I came up with:

My thoughts

As I said earlier, definitely the thinking man's shmup. Boss destruction rate just as important as achieving and maintaining good chains. Points build for grazing, another innovative feature! Getting rid of the 3B boss parts quickly with a L4 A-shot really works good. Don't like that while working on a chain if you shoot even one color off, no more big chain point for you. Trying to figure out which weapons work best, and finding the array of yellow shots in 3B to be quite a challenge (and fun) to graze through, building up some good points there as well. Sword attacks can also save your life early on in 3C.

Made it that far so far, and I may not be multi-millionaire club material yet, but as always, room for improvement, and I usually do just that on future plays.

Now how the heck did I manage to get 50 MILLION on the PRACTICE STAGE before the game begins?! Can we count that somewhere? That is my score, the initial was wrong cuz the run that was associated with was not too good.

(edit after reading Dun's posts: How the heck do you get 800K in 3B? If I could figure that out I'd have at least 1 mil and an extend. Well, that and getting through the first part of 3C intact)

The Merry in the practice stage is worth 50 million. You must've hit the homing missiles right at the beginning.
