I always avoid watching the YT videos of shmups and try to figure out my own way. I would be down for watching a video of someone I knew playing though.

Yeah, I figure, if we were all hanging out in a room, we would probably watch each other play.

Plus, I'm no superplayer, I don't do all kinds of silly things that will make you never want to play the game again

I may add in some drunken commentary though!

I think the end of Stage 2 is getting all of us really bad. That's good  But not for my chances of one day seeing the end of Stage 3.

Not as crazy as those who 1cc every shmup on YT, but still pretty good to get your way around any game we've done so far. :)

do it dunpeal that would be awesome. I've only ever upped a single video of me, and it was a short one where I beat the first boss in Higotaga Happa... but I was just so proud haha. I think it's kind of cool when newer shmups let you record your runs though I never do it other than that one time. But I feel like if I did something I was really proud of -- like a 1CC or something -- it's cool that the option's there on some of them.

Ha ha, alright, I'll do a stage 2 run when I get home.

I just have to remove all my embarassing Rubik's Cube video's first

Thanks! Although, compared to you, I barely touched Axelay! My lack of computer made some of the games unplayable for me sadly. I was so excited about Dragon Blaze, but boards are $250, and I couldn't source one in time.

Having a kickass time playing the worst port of Metal Black though. I think I figured out the issue with this port. In the normal game, when you bomb/beam at full power, it acts like a panic bomb... but if you continue to hold down the bomb/beam button, it forces it into the beam that you would normally get if you bomb/beamed without full power.

In the US ps2 port, though, I have a hard time getting that refocus to work.

I found a sweet new trick! If you do absolutely nothing different, on occasion, the first F*ING enemy in the bonus round will go off-screen for literally, the entire 30 seconds. This is an exciting new twist - usually it is only the last yellow dude who disappears. Oh TAITO, what whimsy will you think of next?

A solid zero-point bonus round, no, literally zero points, and those damn pink whatevers in the middle of stage 3 that come from behind, died twice there - I think i'll bow out on this game - just not having fun :| sorry for the downer vibe.

On the bright side, I finally found something to will my wife when I die.

Wow that's retarded! Does that happen every time I wonder?

Taito can be pretty cheap I've noticed.

Those bonus rounds just suck. I'm sure it was cool in '91, but it didn't age as well as the rest of the game.

I wonder how scores would change if we made it part of the rules not to gain any points during the bonus rounds...

It wouldn't be such a pain if:

-It wasn't such a substantial part of your score (30K is what, 15% of score up to the end of stage 3)...
A-nd this wasn't a hi-score comp.

That's the really frustrating thing.

There doesn't seem to be any "skill" to such an important part of the game, to not only your score, but also toward extends.

Usually I get all (5) with about 9-15 seconds remaining. Occasionally, maybe 30% of the time, the last yellow enemy will just go off screen and stay off.

This last run, the first enemy bolted straight up, I didn't lock on...and he just stayed gone - as in, never came back and the time just ticked away... Not even sure why I continued the run, prob because at least stage 2 and 3 are somewhat entertaining and stage 1 is just so meh / easy.

Am I the only one not having a problem with the bonus stage at all? Yeah it's stupid, but I mean I get perfect pretty much every time by just mash A on everything. I think the random luck factor is part of the charm kind of. Every few runs I miss a few and it's like "d'awwww" but in an endearing way.
