Shmup of the Month Club 2012
Re: Shmup of the Month Club (Metal Black)
Starting Monday I'll have more time to play, but kinda busy this weekend. I haven't made much progress either, only beating my score by a few thousand.

Re: Shmup of the Month Club (Metal Black)
Now that my week of real-life activities has finally been put to rest, I can return to this fine game.

ExedExes - 194,660 - Stage 3 - TL2-PC
I HATE HATE HATE that enemy that closes the walls in to kill you on this stage!

Ok fine
Dunpeal2064 - 195,410 - Stage 3 - PS2
I think I might actually be enjoying this game. Definition memorizor though, I don't know how people can be scared of bullet hell but play these oldschool shooters. I think these types can be much more difficult!

Played this damn game all day working on this.
Dunpeal2064 - 270,140 - Stage 4 - PS2
Stage 4 is going to take a lot of work.

Ok, dudes, here's MHO: Scrap the develpoer idea cuase alot of the same guys, aka the developers, worked for diffent companies writing pretty much the same games, with updated themes, concepts, graphics, and ideas. Just look at the history of the CAVE developers.

Anyways, my suggestion is to make your list either by POPULAR VOTE or by PUBLISHING HOUSE--since each Publisher has a different fan base and each fan base has their favorites.
Later on, you can start to pic boards based on mood, feel, and style.

Doing it by publisher? As in, if we had a Taito published vote, you could vote for anything Taito, early Toaplan, a couple Cave ports?
I think it would be hard to get 12 publishers with a good library to vote between.
There are plenty of developers we didn't do this year, and tons of games by the devs we did do that didn't get play.
Popular vote is hard to do without some kind of restrictions, since there are so many shmups.
I dunno, I think we got a great variety this year.

I agree, and I'm liking the 2nd half of this year.
The system we had in place this year was fine. Remember, this is the inaugural year, and there will be hiccups and bugs to work out for next year too. Bruno is doing a great job of organizing it and the games have been good too. We'll see what changes, if any, need to be made when it comes time to vote again.
Gonna try MB again tonight. I may not get 194K again, but it's always fun to try

I know you can take this one down after seeing your Axelay skills!

Constructive criticism is just that - constructive. No one is placing blame or arguing with the system, just offering up other views.
With respect, a lot of the guys who voted on the developers have not been active in this thread since that point and the same applies, though a bit less, to the game selections. So for that reason alone I don't know why those of us who are very active in the SotM shouldn't be discussing what we do and do not like. No one needs to get defensive.
It's great that some folks are enjoying this game - it really is. It was an undiscovered game for a lot of folks and that is a great thing, discovering old games.
With that - this game, to me, is unimaginative and straight up boring. It embraces solely enemy location memorization. Weapons / powerups / epic bosses / intricate bullet-patterns / fantastic sprites / creative enemies / rank = all lacking. Factor in bonus stages that in some regards are pure luck (the enemy going off-screen is just straight up lame). That's my opinion and what the SotM was supposed to be about, also, imo/perception.
BTW, Nice score, Chaz.
