Never owned a Virtual Boy, Jaguar, Atari 5200 or Sega Master System.Breetai wrote: I can understand saying a system like the VB, Jaguar, 5200, or even SMS is a least favourite, but saying the Wii just baffles me. Go play some Club Drive on the Jaguar, and report back.
I do own a Wii. It's the first time I've ever sold a system. Ever. I ended up buying it again due to Tatsunoko vs Capcom, but that's the only reason I still have it... and since my computer can near perfectly emulate it now, I'd consider selling the system again were it not for the fact that it only sells for like $25 used these days.
Virtual Console seemed fun until I realized I was paying $8 for SNES roms while Sony was selling PSX ISOs for substantially less - I unfortunately didn't realize this until I had already blown near $200. If only I had spent that money on Steam.
The Wii is also the point at which I feel Nintendo of America stopped being Nintendo. No longer willing to take chances - even when those chances are sure fucking bets like Fatal Frame 4 and The Last Story - all they want is to flood their system with Mario spin-offs. Do we really need the umpteenth Mario Sports game when freaking Xenoblade has not made it over here yet?
Moreover, the Wii has had a negative effect on the video game industry in general. I'm not saying it was all hunky-dory when it was just the three Bs of gaming (Bullets, Blood and Boobs), but the glut of shoddily made carnival games and dance offs are not being confined to just the Wii itself - they are spreading like a plague. Like I said, it wasn't all gravy and rainbows before when it was just macho-male power fantasies, but this sure as hell isn't helping.
I'm not buying another Nintendo system unless it's region-free. Nintendo of Europe and Japan still have their heads on straight - it's just Nintendo of America I am extremely 'at odds' with.
