Never owned a Virtual Boy, Jaguar, Atari 5200 or Sega Master System.

I do own a Wii. It's the first time I've ever sold a system. Ever. I ended up buying it again due to Tatsunoko vs Capcom, but that's the only reason I still have it... and since my computer can near perfectly emulate it now, I'd consider selling the system again were it not for the fact that it only sells for like $25 used these days.

Virtual Console seemed fun until I realized I was paying $8 for SNES roms while Sony was selling PSX ISOs for substantially less - I unfortunately didn't realize this until I had already blown near $200. If only I had spent that money on Steam.

The Wii is also the point at which I feel Nintendo of America stopped being Nintendo. No longer willing to take chances - even when those chances are sure fucking bets like Fatal Frame 4 and The Last Story - all they want is to flood their system with Mario spin-offs. Do we really need the umpteenth Mario Sports game when freaking Xenoblade has not made it over here yet?

Moreover, the Wii has had a negative effect on the video game industry in general. I'm not saying it was all hunky-dory when it was just the three Bs of gaming (Bullets, Blood and Boobs), but the glut of shoddily made carnival games and dance offs are not being confined to just the Wii itself - they are spreading like a plague. Like I said, it wasn't all gravy and rainbows before when it was just macho-male power fantasies, but this sure as hell isn't helping.

I'm not buying another Nintendo system unless it's region-free. Nintendo of Europe and Japan still have their heads on straight - it's just Nintendo of America I am extremely 'at odds' with.

As for Sony, again, no hate, I just generally don't care for any of the systems. 99 times out of 100, if a game is available on multiple systems, Playstation is the last place I look.
Nah, I hear you, but what about the absolutely massive list of great PS1 and PS2 exclusives? I would find them pretty hard to ignore, unless you just generally turn a blind eye to the Sony side of things in general.
Oh, they definitely have a solid library. Its not that I outright ignore them really, so much as my interest lies elsewhere.

That said though, there are games and franchises exclusive to Playstation that I love. Jak and Daxter, for instance, is one of my favorite series on any platform.

I guess the way to put it is that with games on other systems, I'm more willing to explore and try stuff at random, but I evaluate PS stuff case by case.

I'm sorry if that doesn't really make sense. I know its not the strongest defense of my position.

Literally dozens? As in more than 24?
In my opinion, yes. More than 24 worthwhile games are on the 3DO.

Considering how he specifically said he feels multiplatform games are often better on it, I think thats unfair.

I can hardly think of enough good games on the 3DO to count on my fingers. Road Rash is an amazing game, but it runs more smoothly on the Playstation and even moreso on the Saturn. Gex scrolls at half the framerate at the PS and Saturn versions and looks pretty rough as a result. Return Fire might be a bit better on the 3DO than it is on the Playstation due to the PS's extreme warping of polygon graphics that it loves to do. I enjoy Need for Speed more on the other systems as well as they not only kept the boring gameplay that was in the original, but added an actual game on top of it with more tracks as well.

I never made the exclusive claim. As quoted above, I included games that were multiplatform in that claim. Maybe there are more than 24 worthwhile games that are exclusive, but I'm not claiming that off the top of my head.

I guess my main point is that I think the 3DO is unfairly knocked, when it's actually a decent system. It's not really in the "mainline" or retro systems that people need, but I'd say it's at or near the front of the pack for non-main systems (unless you count the TG-16 as a non-mainline... I think it's a necessary system for collectors).

About Gex, I have never noticed the difference in framerate. I own both the 3DO version and the PS1 version. I'll have to compare them. I generally like the 3DO version because it saves. The PS1 only has passwords.

The 3DO? Yes.

Its region free too, as I understand it.
