Well, a new EVIL DEAD 2 seems to have been nixed, and although it has the greenlight ARMY OF DARKNESS 2 may not happen.
I've been following AOD2 for a while and although Sam & Co. have signed on it looks like this gem of an idea will either be cancelled or postponed.

booooo. I thought the whole (New) Evil Dead 2 > Army of Darkness 2 > The Evil Dead 7 thing was brilliant.

Rodo Sayagues.
After CABIN and EVIL DEAD (though not related, but yeah, they are) dropped, the figures made some execs think "Holy crap, this is a cash cow". Although I loved the absence of an Ash character in Evil Dead, the plan was to jump off with an Evil Dead 2 with an Ash, leading into an Army of Darkness 2. And then things got stuck in the mud, as they often do.
Not saying neither of the films won't happen, but I can say with confidence that both ideas are on the back burner as of now.
It's a keep your fingers crossed but don't hold your breath situation.

Anyone else love these kind of horror anthologies? They're an integral part of the genre, and I know at least a couple of folks have already watched others this year like V/H/S. These kinds of films range the gamut in quality, but Creepshow is a classic of the style. Written by(and starring) Stephen King, directed by George Romero, with special effects by Tom Savini, and starring such greats as Tom Atkins, Leslie Nielsen, Ted Danson, Ed Harris, and Adrienne Barbeau, this film features creative humor, a distinctive style, and a love for the days of horror comics by EC and DC such as Tales from the Crypt. There's lots of love here for both horror and the comic form. The quality of the stories themselves vary, but each one has its own lasting impact.
The story that impresses me most in this film is The Crate, as it combined a higher level of gore along with a great monster movie idea set in a university basement. It is by far the bloodiest of the stories, though not as unnerving as either The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verill or They're Creeping Up on You, two stories about mold and cockroaches(and my favorite ideas, though both are more humorous for the over-the-top acting portrayed by Stephen King and E. G. Marshall). Father's Day is competent and features excellent undead costuming, but it felt a little bland to me, while Something to Tide You Over felt by far the weakest of the bunch for the overly long intro about Nielsen's character murdering Danson's. It is disturbing watching Nielsen enjoy himself, but the story changes completely afterward into one that fits the rest of the film far more.
Anyway, I love Creepshow, and you all should see it if you haven't.
I watched Creepshow last night. My favorite stories were the cockroach one (oh my god this must have been disgusting to film. It was horrible just to watch.) and the buried under the sand story. I can't believe Ted Danson put up with all that water in his face. He is a more patient actor than I realized. Leslie Nelson was delightfully sadistic.

@JT and @Luke ... awesome! I did mine last night with the kids, they loved doing it of course. I wanted to do one like Pyro Jack, but they didn't like the look, so it's pretty standard fare. I'll take a pic tonight.

I have no problem with people who really go all out when making their jack-o-lanterns, but I'll always prefer the rustic look. I also like the guy-liner JT used, but I doubt I'll stray from the traditional look.
Pro-tip: The station "Monster Mash" on Pandora is pretty great for Halloween music.

Haha, I actually thought the Ted Danson/Leslie Nelson story was the weakest, but I'm glad you liked it and the movie, JT! Here's a clip from a special that Bravo did back in 2004 about horror movies which focuses on Creepshow and the production of the cockroach story:

Anyway, I watched a classic last night:

It's amazing to me how fondly this movie is remembered after considering how much of it takes place off screen. No wolves are ever shown. We don't see Dracula drink blood or do much beyond mesmerize those around him. While Dracula turns into a bat, we never see the transformation. He's even killed off camera. But the film still gives off a profound gothic atmosphere and has several visual similarities to the silent horror films that predate it by several years, including Nosferatu.
For me, there are three main highlights: Edward Van Sloan, who as Van Helsing at times seems almost as creepy as Dracula, Dwight Frye, whose vision of Renfield swiftly sways between stark clarity and intense and manic madness, and finally Bela Lugosi himself, whose stage presence and dark charisma is astounding in the titular role. Beyond that, there are plot holes and storylines that never get wrapped up, some odd moments of comedy, and more than a couple of characters who swiftly get written out entirely. It's to Lugosi's credit that this movie became so iconic, because frankly I don't think it really would have worked without him.
