Halloween 2 (the original)? It's awesome. Super gory. Love it.
Scream is amazing. Scream 2 is good. Frighteners is great. (It has Sonic Youth's "Superstar" cover in it!!!)
Was the movie Hellraiser any good? Somebody said that the movie was the best that the 80's offers, but I'm curious to hear a roster of good 80's horror movies.

the first Hellraiser is one of my favorite movies of all time. Not just horror. Favorite movies. I fucking love it.

Yeah, it was the original Halloween 2. It's really stood the test of time. There really isn't that much gore on screen, though it feels more violent then a lot of movies. It's more about creating dread and then showing you a little blood or something gross like a hyperdermic needle to the eye. The special features for the movie talked about how they loved hearing people talk about how gory the movie was when there were really relatively few scenes of gore.
I love the Scream Trilogy. I've watched them all before, but my wife just bought the trilogy so we're watching them again. The first one is still the best.
The Frighteners was new for me. It was kind of a fun movie. It's interesting to see how different Peter Jackson's movies can be from one another.
I've had my DVR filled this month with horror movies:
-Bride of Frankenstein -Diary of the Dead -Dracula 2000 -Dreamcatcher -Gremlins -Halloween -Halloween: H20 -The Mummy (Original) -The People Under the Stairs -Resident Evil -Survival of the Dead -Zombies: A Living History (History Channel)
Also picked up the Nightmare on Elm Street series on DVD. I now have every single entry in the series including Freddy's Dead, Wes Craven's New Nightmare & Freddy vs. Jason, as well as all 5 originals. I choose to ignore the remake.
Plus I've been watching The Walking Dead and An American Horror Story TV shows. So I've been in the spirit!

I suppose that is true. It "feels" gory though. Haha. That hot tub scene, though. Yikes.

the first is certainly the best. Have you seen 4 yet though? It's the best since the first.
certainly a classic. Although I've never deemed it quite perfect. I think what does it for me is the editing. I feel like there could have been a good half-hour's worth of one or two-minute scenes clipped here and there that would have made things move a lot better. It might be nitpicky, but really once the movie gets going it's so good that it bothers me that there are a bunch of points during the first 30 or 40 minute buildup where I'm thinking to myself "okay, already... let's get this shit started." I'm sure I'll be hated for this opinion, but just keeping it real. On the flip, I will say that the acting in this movie is top-notch. And of course the music is excellent -- even better is the lack thereof. I love that there's so many scenes with no music at all. It works.
4/5
Saturday Night Live: Halloween
A bit of a yearly tradition. This dates back to the late-90's and earlier. It's good fun, but of course I wish there were more of these DVD's. There's certainly a lot more material to be culled from.
The House of the Devil
I've spent plenty of time in this thread talking about how much I hated Ti West's Cabin Fever 2. Watching HOTD again reminds me of a another reason to hate it: he's actually fully capable of making something brilliatn. HOTD to me is one of the best horror films of the last decade. But let me explain something: not a lot happens. Not until the final reel really. But the slow burner tension is incredible. This movie's strongest point -- and biggest star -- is atmosphere. There is a staggering level of attention paid to detail. Everything is thought out. Every tiny nuance of homage is balanced perfectly. There's likely many that will see this and be bored, but there's also just as many of you who will see and it and feel that you're watching some long lost hidden gem VHS and be thrilled that you found it.
Awesome flick. People that know this film always like to refer to the famous basketball death scene and while yes it is a classic moment for the film, it offers much more. Well written storyline, excellent atmosphere, and score! IMO, it's a hidden over looked gem.
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

OMG! See man, this is why I wish we could hang out. Haha.
Deadly Frend rules! Super highly recommended. You can't get better than Kristy Swanson as a robot who blows up Ann Ramsey's head, now can you?
Another example of why Craven is one of my favorite directors (if not my favorite). BTW, the film is based on the book simply titled Friend.
