I hate it when they have the junior person walking the sales floor trying to make sales. Actually silly considering the new hire usually is clueless on the games and store offers. I once asked the "intern" to maybe open the other register; there were eight people waiting for their turn to hear the speech from the cashier. The employee did not have the clearance to operate a cash register.pvt_awol wrote:While they are nice, and welcome you as soon as you walk in, they seem like they either don't know anything about games, or don't care. This can be kind of frustrating, since they'll follow me around and bother me. It's kind of just a personal peeve I guess. I know that there isn't a pre-requisite to love games in order to work there, but it would greatly help to know the product better.

This is frustrating. The main reason I go to Gamestop (other than to scoop up Wii sales LOL) is for the knowledge and the selection of niche' games. I can't get anyone at Wal-Mart to know what I'm talking about with certain games. So I rely on GS for knowledge and information.
I asked a recent "noob" employee, if he had any copies of The Witch and The Hundred Knight for PS3. He first looked at me like I was crazy, and said he had never heard of that game. He asked what it was like, I told him it was like Zelda. He says, "I have a copy of Skyward Sword I could sell you?"
I said, "No thanks boss. How about just a copy of Witch and Hundred Knight that you have right behind you on the new-release shelves."
That is what I'm talking about. You don't have to know everything about games, but at least know your job. If you don't even know what's sitting on the new-release shelf, then why bother?

I think you guys are VASTLY overrating the motivation and enthusiasm of teenagers and young adults working for near minimum wage for a corporate giant who does nothing to inspire employee loyalty anymore....

Nah, I'm not overrating it. I get it, these guys and gals need a job, need money, and will work wherever. It's just like working any retail job. You don't have to be an expert on the product. But I think that you should at least do well at your job. I used to pump gas for a living. That job sucked, but I was super good at it. Hell, I had to be there for 8 hours a day, I might as well do the best job I can.
But again, you've hit the nail on the head. We're not talking about 30 something year old gaming pros that know the industry in and out for years. We're talking about 17 year old Billy from down the street who could give a crap about gaming at all.
I get that. I get all of that. It's just frustrating.

Thing that I have found which works very well is printing out a list of games you want then having them help you look for them. A lot of the guys are bored out of their minds and they are more then happy to do it. Also keeps them occupied so they don't bug you about preorders and new releases
.
I usually use site to store to check inventory and make up a shopping list every time I go out to gamestop.

I do the same thing. I have a running list that I keep on my phone.Fragems wrote: I usually use site to store to check inventory and make up a shopping list every time I go out to gamestop.
I've never thought about asking the employees to help. I might do that next time I'm there since some of the stores I've been to are ghost towns.

Yeah usually I only ask them to make sure if they are in the inventory and tell them I'll track down all the cases. Half the time the guys want to help though so they come out on the floor and search with me
. Usually I just make up a hit list with notepad and print it out.
Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
So i love the one I consider my closest one. Whenever this red head girl is there she is probably the most helpful one there unlike the dude at the galleria one here
And she's sadly learning how I am with games now(mostly because of the ways you guys have twisted me to like having the case for it
)....it feels like at least a month or more since i've been there and she still knows that somehow now that's what I call good customer service
Also looks like next month will be a big psp month for me, gamestop is eliminating psp stock it seems(they transferred it from the store I was at to another one already at the one I just mentioned from what she told me). Hello psp month in july

Re: Is Gamestop Evil? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Most of the GameStops in my area ... are actually alright. They have somewhat level headed, open minded people working there whom like games.
But the most popular GameStop store in my area ... is just awful. The staff gets turned over every 6 months, or so. Since the last time they did that, it's just gotten bad.
It's the only GameStop I've ever been to where the employees start arguments with customers. Ask a question, it'll result in a severely condescending argument. Even if you're not arguing back.
It's like they think, the way you troll on the internet isn't just OK there, it's OK in face to face communication as well.
What sucks is, before they turned the staff over, there were some great people working there. It was actually pleasant to go into the store. What a concept.
It's almost like this store with this staff has been transported directly from a 1992 comic book shop.
