It stems all the way back to the days of Napster when people downloaded songs commonly mislabeled by other peers who had not idea.. Unfortunately, this song is one of the more frequently mis-associated... You're right, it sounds NOTHING like Cradle of Filth..

...however....

The song is called "Queen of Winter, Throned" and it features an eerily (no pun intended!) familiar riff from a certain Simon's Quest from a certain gothic videogame on Nintendo.. I always found this intriguing as both a Cradle fan and a Castlevania fan...

At some point in Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, there's a stage called the Tower of Eternity. It is fifty floors, which means you go through fifty identical rooms, fighting enemies over and over.
Admittedly that's true, but by fifty floors, the writer means it's fifty rooms, and you must fight your way to the top against different groups of monsters. Do you remember the arena in Circle of the Moon? It's a lot like that. It's also entirely optional, so if you don't want to do it, you don't have to.

As for the rest of the review, he's right, it is visually drab, but I don't know if it's as bad as he makes it sound. Check your map often, and some rooms and areas look drastically different from others, so you're not necessarily looking at the same thing over and over again. The stages are pretty low in interactivity, but you should be able to tell the difference between the candles you are able to destroy and the ones that are just a part of the background.

As for the locking camera complaint, that one's actually pretty easy to deal with. You just turn it off...

I've had both Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer stuck in my head for the past three days. Today it's Vampire Killer.

Well I beat Curse of Darkness again, this time using Trevor. I wrote my thoughts in the Games Beaten 2011 thread, but I'll say it again here that I liked playing as Trevor a lot more than I liked playing as Hector. It's a shame I had to beat the game to get access to him.

I just beat Castlevania III. I used a save state right before the fight with Dracula because I got tired of having to plow through enemies and having to grind for hearts every time I lost against Dracula. I read Ziggy's post about starting at Dracula when you die against him in the Famicom version. I also read a list of differences between the NES and Famicom versions and I'm really wanting to try out the translation of Akumajo Densetsu.

This thread is getting huge so sorry if you said any of this earlier, but how would you compare it to Lament of Innocence? LoI definitely had all the right idea's, and was 110% more "Castlevania" than Lords of Shadow and all, though the repetition did get to me after awhile. I almost felt like it was too much like the Metroidvania games, nonstop connection of the same hallways and same rooms over and over, this doesn't bother me in the 2D titles, but it just made LoI feel too sluggish and kind of boring I guess. I'd like to give it another go sometime though and finish it (I did get a few "area's" in, however you want to say it. Probably played a few hours). The music was certainly amazing and the story seemed cool.

All that said I haven't checked out Curse of Darkness yet but I've been meaning too.

Overall I liked Lament of Innocence more. If you dislike repetition in room design, you may want to avoid Curse of Darkness actually, as its backgrounds are drab and extremely repetitive. There are a few places that look ok and vary things up a bit, but usually you're staring at the same thing throughout the level.

I see, also read your post in that other thread about it. I'll have to check it out sometime, but I guess I'll consider trying to finish LoI sometime instead.

After you play the Famicom version, it's hard to wanna play the NES version again.
