NES (Well, technically it was dad's, but who cares?)
Sega Genesis
N64
Gameboy Color
Gameboy Advance SP (I was going to get the original version, but I'm glad I waited before being horribly trolled by Nintendo)
(Totally skipped this generation. I blame the stress of school and my compulsion to be an overachiever. :? )
Wii
Playstation 1 (My first foray into Sony. This should be fun :D )

Interesting thread. I guess the first gameing console I ever laid hands on was a Pong clone called the Bentley Compu-vision at my grandparents house back in the 80's. I got into games and played my dad's Atari 2600 after that. Things didn't get serious until I got the new NES for my birthday. I started playing games quite a bit more after that. Then I got the SNES when it came out and that was my primary system. I played the Sega Genesis and Turbo Graffix 16 consoles over at my neighbors house though. I would even go over there even when he wasn't home and played Bonk while his brother was playing old dos games. We spent many hours trying to beat Jurassic Park and Night Trap on the Sega Cd as well. Then I got a Nintendo 64 but it didn't quite gel for me. I remember being excited about the Nintendo 64 when it was called the Ultra 64. I saw so many articles that were showing Killer Instinct and other high quality graphics but when they changed the name and actually released the console it was a disappointment for me.

So I bought a Playstation which I had resisted for quite a while. I remember always seeing it displayed and playing at Toys R Us and seeing Battle Arena Toshinden and thinking it looked chunky. Needless to say I converted pretty quick. The Playstation then became my primary console. After that was a no brainer moving on to a PS2. At some point my parents got me a gamecube for my birthday after I had moved out but I had a nasty breakup with a previous gf and had to barter it for a couch so I would have some furniture when I moved out. I hated that couch and threw it out a few years later because it was huge and I had to move it up and down stairs multiple times. So sometimes I wish I had kept the Gamecube but it wasn't one of my favorite systems. Then sometime between PS2 and the Gamecube I bought my first Sega system and it was a model 1 Dreamcast with about 8 games and two controllers for $80 off Craigslist. I was blown away by it and to this day it is one of the most played systems I have.

Now I have a PS3 but to be honest its missing something. Consoles are starting to become more like PC's but I already have a PC so I don't like playing games like Call of Duty on it. I play those type of games on a PC. Sometimes I wish I had bought an Xbox360 for the Shmups but I have no respect for Microsoft. I resist Xbox systems like the original Playstation only worse. If I ever got one I would tear it apart and modify it but its too expensive/too much of a pain to bother.

1989: Birth.
Christmas 1993 (I think): SNES.
May 1998: All my SNES games are stolen, although I don't lose my console. One of my uncles gives me his old NES and about thirty games, which I play all summer.
Winter 1998/1999: GBC.
June 1999: PSX. I trade in the old SNES. :(
July or August 2001: Dreamcast.
July 2002: PS2. I trade in the Dreamcast.
2003 (I think): SNES again, hoping to find and play some old RPGs, but I give up and soon sell the console.
Christmas 2007: SNES for the third time. This time, I actually build up a collection again.
February 1, 2009: Dreamcast again.
March 2009: Genesis.
Christmas 2009: PS3.
Consoles: NES, SNES, DC, PS2, PSP, PS3, 3DS, PS4.

Genesis

Game Gear

Sega CD

32X

Saturn

Playstation

Intellivision

Playstation 2

PSP

Dreamcast

Nomad

Sega CDX

Power Base Converter (Master System)

N64

NES

Wii

PS3

Other than my original Game Gear and my extensive Intellivision collection, I still have all my originals. Most things were bought new except for the NES, Nomad, CDX and N64. I have all the boxes and manuals, I'm a geek that way. I've rebuilt my Game Gear collection but have no desire to get back into Intellivision. It was neat stuff, but an Intellivision Lives! collection for PS1 does just fine in place of all that bulky hardware. I always hated that Intellivision control pad and I just didn't have room for all that hardware (three systems, all the add-ons, many, many boxed games with overlays, took three large shipping boxes to ship it all off to it's new home). The sale of the Intellivision collection allowed me to move on to a much more broad and enjoyable collection that I actually use.

And that's all actually.

Your Console History

Post by TornadoCreator »

I thought this would be interesting, give us all a chance to remenisce over our old consoles. So here's my console history.

April 1990 - Master System
I was only 4 years old. This was my first console ever. I was hooked since. I still remember my first games. I had Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Paperboy, The Ninja and Castle Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse. I loved all of them. I still fondly remember some of the later games I got over the next few birthdays/christmases Enduro Racer, Putt & Putter, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Golden Axe Warrior where some of my favourites.
Fate of this console - I still have it to this day.

Christmas 1993 - Mega Drive
I wanted this all year and when I got it, it was faulty out of the box, apparently I didn't get to play it till the second week of January my parent said because they had to send it back to Sega. Apparently I was so greatful to have my own that I didn't mind that it was broken and actually comforted my Mum telling her I didn't mind waiting longer to play it, I was just happy to have one... I don't know how true that is, but it's a sweet story anyway.
Fate of this console - Traded it for a 3DO

Christmas 1994 - Mega CD
I actually don't remember using my Mega CD all that much, I only remember having 3 games for it Terminator, Earthworm Jim and Mickey Mania.
Fate of this console - Traded it for a 3DO

September 1995 - CD-i
I was given this with 4 games and 3 educational discs. It was bought by my dad second-hand in order to make such I had an "advantage" going into High School... I was still only 9, but it was a nice gesture. Good thing though, I was allowed to keep this console in my bedroom... I think my dad forgot it had games on it.
Fate of this console - Sold it when in high school.

April 1996 - Sega Multi-Mega
I still don't quite know why I got this for my birthday, I already had a Sega CD, but I somehow convinced my dad that it was worth it because it was also a walkman as well (well it was technically). When my parents bought me this is was still around £250 in the shops, although I'm fairly sure I got a discounted display model... still I had one.
Fate of this console - I broke it a few years later... it was advertised as a portable walkmen, I tested this description to the hilt. If I'd known it would be a limited release collectable I'd have been more careful with it. It was eventually thrown away by my parents, after all it didn't work anymore.

November 1996 - 3DO
One of my cousins had a 3DO with Crash n' Burn, Total Eclipse and Killing Time. He told me he was going to sell it because he never played it and I offered to trade him my old Sega as I didn't need it, I had the new compact Sega... he agreed. Possibly not the best trade on my part but I was happy.
Fate of this console - I still have it, but it doesn't read discs anymore :(

Christmas 1997 - Sega Saturn
As you can see, a pattern is emerging. My parents bought this for me and I loved it, one of my favourite consoles. This also marked a time when I was allowed all my games consoles in my room... YAY! School work inevitably suffered.
Fate of this console - I took it to my girlfriends house in 2002 and left it there so we'd have something to play at her house... we split up 6 months later, as far as I know, she still has it.

Christmas 1999 - Sega Dreamcast
My parents, always content to feed my sega needs bought me another Sega console. This was my last console that I didn't personally go out and buy myself. It's still one of my most loved consoles.
Fate of this console - I still have it, but it randomly stopped working, not sure why... I got a second one last year though which works great.

Summer 2001 - PSOne with LCD screen
Years of only occationally getting to play my brothers playstation finally broke me and I decided to get my own, I went a step further and got the one with the portable screen, it's a cool little screen actually and I love it.
Fate of this console - I still have it.

October 2004 - Xbox
I was in university and didn't have any of my games consoles with me... I did however have a student load and a local electronics store. I in a fit of madness went down and bought a portable TV, CD player and Xbox (including DVD remote) all in one go and brought them all back to my dorm. I was most pleased with myself... I ate noodles and baked beens the rest of the semester.
Fate of this console - It's currently my DVD player for my bedroom, I play some games on it very occationally.

Summer 2006 - Playstation 2
My brother gave me his Playstation 2 because he "didn't realise he already had one and bought a new one", apparently he thought it was broken and put it in the bottom of the wardrobe, found it a year later and tried it and it worked fine... this is the same PS2 he bought back in 2001.
Fate of this console - This is my primary games console, I play it daily.

May 2007 - Xbox 360
My room-mate gave me this for nothing... yeah, I was shocked too. He just bought an Xbox 360 Elite and decided he didn't need his old one so gave it to me. It had a dodgy drive that opened and closed only when it felt like it and it sometimes flickered if you played it for too long. This became my primary console and DVD player for 3 years... he bought it at launch... this console was BADLY treated, it was in the Living Room of a 5 person student dorm room and it had coke spilt on it, cigarette ash spilt on it, pizza left on it like a table, clothes thrown over it...
Fate of this console - I still own it, but it overheats if you play it for more than about 10-15mins, so it's basically useless. I'll probably repair it. It's shocking the thing lastest as long as it did.

Christmas 2009 - Xbox 360
Knowing my Xbox 360 had a tendancy to overheat occationally and the drive would sometime just refuse to open, or for a change of pace constantly open and close, they decided to get me a new one...
Fate of this console - It red-ringed 3 months after I got it. It then red-ringed again 2 months after being fixed... it's currently acting as a paperweight.

June 2011 - Gamecube
Got this recently at a car-boot sale. Didn't have any games with it but that's OK, I bought a couple on eBay. It's a good little console and I'm enjoying it. I'd played my cousins before so I was glad to finally have my own.
Fate of this console - I still have it and play it somewhat regularly.

So... that's my console history. What's yours like? (and please don't hate me too much for breaking the CDX/Multi-Mega, I didn't mean too).

I'm sure we've had similar threads before but eh...

I was a huge nintendo kid.

Had SNES, then NES, then Gameboy, N64, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, etc.

I was never a Nintendo 'fanboy' though, it was just what I knew the best so I stuck to it. There was a Sega Master System at my grandmother's house that'd I'd play often and enjoyed (even though we had a pretty limited selection of games, none of which were really 'classics' on the system). I'd play the Genesis at various friend's houses and enjoyed it as much as anything else.

Got a PlayStation sometime after owning an n64 for a while, got a ps2 after my Gamecube, own a ps3 now but I don't really use it for much other than blu rays.

Recently-ish I've been definitely playing a lot of Sega stuff though. I've had various Genesis and Dreamcast systems over the years, but until I had the means to buy online I'd never really explored the consoles as we didn't have much to choose from locally and I pretty much had no idea what to look for. Now that I know what I'm looking for, it's been a blast. It's like exploring this huge side of the console gaming coin that I'd only ever had glimpses of before. And it's awesome.
