It at least looks like it'll play like KOFXIII did, a bit, but those animations still look really stiff and those models still look like they're from a mobile game. An impressive looking mobile game, but still.

Well, from the sounds of this

http://shoryuken.com/2015/11/02/snk-playmore-plans-to-step-up-game-development-after-leaving-pachislot-business/

maybe we can expect more from SNK in the future. Also, interesting is this supposed leaked roster list http://shoryuken.com/2015/11/04/king-of-fighters-xivs-roster-may-have-leaked-months-ago/ but then again like they said in he article, take it with a grain of salt.

I'm a little disappointed that one of the last "big name" bastions of 2D sprites has given out. It worked well for Street Fighter but they also went with a heavily stylized look that helped with the transition.

There was something chunky and gritty about the way SNK fighters look and feel that isn't present here, amplified by the fact that the character models have that shiny sheen to them to help them stand out from the background.

It might end up a good game but I can't say it's the direction I personally wanted to see the series go. Gameplay wise it looks solid, but artistically it's lacking.

That seems to be the consensus from everyone that was a fan of 12 and 13's 2D sprites.

Yeah, the announcer needs to go. I can see from the edge-work on the models that they are going for the 3D-that-looks-kinda-like-2D style. It's OK. Model complexity isn't the problem. They need to do a little more work on the textures and shading, but they aren't too far off. Already has better art design than SF IV.

^ The art style itself looks better but the character designs are worse. Both cases are disappointing though. Third Strike and XIII both had some of the best 2D animation in video games, and then their sequels both go for incredibly ugly 3D.
Insert clever quote here.

I don't feel like I've seen enough footage to make that call on the character designs. I need to see more. KOF has been all over the place on character designs during its long history.
